Heater issues with 2000 Expy continue

Any real chance the fan clutch being locked up would keep this thing cold? It's in 20s and 30s up here in Montana now.

Heater issues with 2000 Expy continue

Thanks Thermo. I replaced the water pump last January during round #1 of this heater problem. Replaced the t-stat yesterday, second new one from Napa. It's making heat about the same as before. Temp guage sits right in the middle pretty much when the top radiator hose is barely warm to the...

Heater issues with 2000 Expy continue

Folks, I posted last winter regarding this as well. I've got barely warm heat when driving on the highway. I've checked the heater vent, replaced water pump, flushed system multiple times, replaced t-stat. As of now, after driving 25 miles on the highway, top radiator and coolant hoses are...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Solved! Took the truck into a good radiator shop. Flushed the system, he said every blast of pressure was excrementing :) clay like deposits out of the cores. Seems the garden hose flush didnt have enough pressure to move the sediment. All is good now, cept I have to get it running better now...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Could a "clogged" radiator possibly cause this problem I have? An odd thing happened the other day while driving with the radiator air-flow blocked off with masonite. The truck over heated, pegged the gauge finally and still no heat! Just luke-warm air.

Expedition runs terrible after 1/2 throttle

Thanks yep I saw that and checked that early on. Cleaning my IAC fixed the rough idle. Mine kind of does that as well in that about 4K-5K RPM the power comes back and it runs clean.

Expedition runs terrible after 1/2 throttle

Folks, I'm battling a heater problem in another thread but another problem my Expedition currently has is that it cuts out, misses badly if given over 1/3, 1/2 throttle. Runs fine up until then so one can basically baby the thing along. However, encounter a hill and have to give it some throttle...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

I'm a bit lost as well. Does anyone have a coolant flow diagram for these Expys? It is cold up here 20s right now but this rig used to run you out of the truck even at 10 below zero temps outside. It's basically like the thermostat is open all times. Next step, I will remove the top...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Update: Replaced the water pump today, old one looked good one the way out, fins looked like the new pump. No change in heat. That's ok, water pump needed changed anyhow. Like I've said earlier the radiator/heater hoses never get hot, just warm. I got aggressive and cut a piece of thin...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Bought a new pump today, Napa, $62. You guys are telling me that the metal fins of these pumps wear off? If so I'll know for sure when I pull my original one out. :) How involved is it to change the pump? Thanks again guys for all the help. Mangus

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

I'd love to believe it's the water pump, replace and I'm done. I did however have good coolant flow through the clear heater hose I put in but maybe the coolant isnt mixed well (warm but not hot) due to worn water pump fins? It certainly makes sense and would explain why the rear heat is...

    Gas Cap= better mileage

Interesting. My Expy makes belching noises out its gas cap, I thought it was normal? About ever 30 seconds it belches. Is this not normal?

    Home Depot or Lowe's?

Cardinal Hardware which is True Value and such. Locally owned, good people too. Home Depot is terrible to find things in and I avoid if at all possible. Lowes not much better in my book.

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Thanks guys for the info. Here's where she stands: Yesterday I spliced in a piece of clear heater hose so I could visually see the coolant flow, per the the suggestion that the water pump might be bad. Nope, flows like a champ, good hot coolant screaming through the heater lines. So, I figure...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Ready to trade it off! Alright folks, here's the latest status of my 2000 XLT Expedition heater problems. Sorry for all the posts but this is really torquing me off. :( This morning it's a balmy -30 with wind chill. Expedition heat in both the front/back never gets above luke-warm in...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Flushed both cores today, all clean. I have hot coolant flowing through the cores so it must be something else. I see threads about the blend-door. Where is it and how does one get to it? I didnt think it could be this cause both front/rear heats act the same but maybe they are broken. Is...

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Yeah changed t-stat this weekend, figured it was not it. It wasnt. Same result. Lukewarm heat out of both dash/rear heaters. Someone mentioned a valve on the heater-coolant lines, does my 2000 Expy have this? If so where is it. Any chance the A/C is running diluting my hot air with cold...

2000 expedition runs rough at times, then runs great!

Thanks all. I pulled the IAC and cleaned it yesterday. Truck is running great, no CEL, We'll see if it stays that way. I've got a code reader so next time it does it Ill pull the codes.

Expedition heater woes, warm then cool air

Temp gauge sits in the middle, normal as far as I recall. Both dash/rear heat blow warm air but once out on the road both go cold, not just-started cold but cool. If you get on the throttle, blower airs gets warmer within seconds. I've checked antifreeze level, full. Took off heater core lines...

Alternate (snow) tires for my 2000 Expedition

Truck has P255/70R16. How much variation can I do as far as a 16" tire goes? 215 85R16 ? LT265/75R16? 235/60R16? Thanks all. Mangus

2000 expedition runs rough at times, then runs great!

Yeah a lil frustrating. Last night I thought it might die on me, it was that bad. Other times it runs perfect. Very sporadic behavior. Has new spark plugs, new fuel filter, clean air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor. Saw on here somewhere where cleaning an EGR? device up by the throttle body might...
