Guys,
I have a 2000 Expy. My check engine light came on but it runs great! Is there a way to check to see what the engine code is w/o a scanner? Nearest dealer is 50 miles, and auto parts is 65 mile.
2000 Expedition
Just replace my coils after 148,000 miles. Started missing a few weeks ago and was really bad under load. Replace all (8) coils last weeks and now runs stronger than ever. Purchased after market coils from Global on e-bay.

Oil in Plug Holes
What motor are you working on?
Could be several things:
(1) Oil spillage when changing oil. Oil that gets spilled on to the valve cover and the intake can seep into the plug holes.
(2) Valve Cover gasket: If gasket on the valve cover is leaking on the intake side, oil...
Mis-Fire
With all that you have done so far, it sounds like a timing issue. How many miles on the engine? I assume that you replaced the coils with new...right? I recently had a similar problem under load and replaced all 8 coils....problem solved. However, the miss never sounded or felt...
Bad Coils
I had a similar problem with my coils on my 5.4L. Engine started misfiring with no check-engine light. Finally after a week of running and mis-firing a code appeared. It was the #2 coil.
Bought (8) coils on e-bay from Global for $80 bucks. Installed this past weekend. Truck now...

I have a 2000 Expedition that i have owned since 2005. It's a 2WD XLT with a 5.4L. I bought the truck with 45K miles and it now has 148K and still running strong. With regular maintenance the 5.4L engine and drive-train have been bulletproof.
