Good evening all. Well we have a verdict---it was the starter. The shop replaced it and it fired right up. On one hand I'm happy to have it fixed, but on the other hand if I should have just replaced it as long as I was under it in the cold. Oh well.
Thanks to all for your help!
Just a quick update as we've been out of town. Decided it couldn't hurt to do the ol' bang the starter w/ a hammer trick, but no difference. I have a volt meter, but it's mainly for show as I don't know how to use it :( It's a free Harbor Freight model, but should be able to do the trick...
Thanks for the sharp eyes Stamp! I hooked that up and sure enough I now have lights, radio, etc.....but back to square one in that nothing happens with the starter. No clicking, no attempt to turn over at all. Even if it was the starter I would think I'd at least hear an attempt for it to start?

So was finally able to get everything put back together after much elbow grease, cursing and questioning of Ford's engineers and.....nothing. No lights, nothing like everything is dead. Parts replaced: battery, starter solenoid (on firewall) and battery cable. Beyond frustrated. Any ideas...
Time for an update...Due to improving weather I was able to get out and work on removing the battery cable. It was a bear but I was able to get it out and am ready to install the new one (OEM part). Has anyone done this job yet? The cable is very Medusa like and before I begin I don't know if...
Well the snow finally melted enough that I could get underneath my beast and lo and behold the positive battery cable has corroded enough that it separated from the 90 degree connector to the starter. New one is on the way from Amazon so think I should be on the road by this time next week...
Thanks all for the help! I've been in training all week so haven't had a chance to track down all the suggestions, not to mention the truck is parked on a sheet of ice thanks to our latest storm. My son did replace the starter solenoid on the firewall, but still have the same result. I took a...
Thanks for the reply! Tried starting it in neutral this morning before heading to work and got the same result.
I'll give the cables a good look this weekend as I'll have actual light to see them for a change. Thanks again!
Greetings from Omaha,
I have a 2000 5.4 EB that was recently struggling to start over the course of the last month as the colder weather has started settling in.
The first couple of times I didn't think much of it as I drive it maybe once a week and the rest of the time it sits in the driveway...
Greetings from Omaha!
I recently had the lower rear trailing arms replaced after the OEM arm on the driver side rusted through. I had a shop do this and have noticed since then that when I get on the gas the rear of the vehicle "torques" to the right and when I let off it does the same thing...
I wanted to give an update to let everyone know that the problem is fixed and say thanks again! I was able to find an unmolested rim for a whopping $10 and then played the hokey pokey with all my good tires on bad rims so that I now have 4 Goodyears of the same size and depth riding on the same...
Thanks for the insight and the quick replies. It's been parked since then so no worries in regards to further damage. I did however put a new double DIN stereo in it last night to bring it (further) into the 21st century.
Looks like a trip to U Pull It is in my future to source another rim so...
Greetings from Omaha,
I picked up a 2000 4x4 EB w/ the 5.4 and 217k on it for $900 this week. Compared to a lot of the sub $2500 Expeditions I've seen this one is in good shape. No CE lights and everything works including the sunroof.
The previous owner had three original rims and tires on...
