    Speaker upgrade worth it?

@HushCarAudio - Clearly you have some experience with car audio, what is your opinion about running the lower impedance aftermarket speakers off the factory ACM? You are 100% right that amplification is the way to go, but it seems like there are a number of tradeoffs going this route with the...

    Speaker upgrade worth it?

I took the Expy on a road trip two weeks ago and the weak base Sync 3 audio setup finally pushed me over the edge. Without doing much research, I bought new 6x9's for the front doors and a new front center channel Infinity Reference for both. When I got the center channel speakers, the box...

    Dealer says “shifts are normal”

My Expy is in the shop getting the transmission checked out (and getting the phasers replaced, again...) so I did some googling and found another class action on the 10-speed, this one from July 2023: https://fordauthority.com/2023/07/another-ford-10-speed-automatic-lawsuit-has-been-filed/...

    Power Liftgate Not Working

I was working on a deck and had to haul lumber two weeks ago, some of the pieces were 12ft long and the hatch obviously wouldn't close. My kid still decided to press the automatic close button and when the liftgate hit the lumber and could not close, it gave up and went into limp mode - the...

2022 LTD MAX 4WD tires - The Generals gotta go

I put on a set of these in June/2022 and love them. Improved handling, better gas mileage, heavier-rated (I tow a large boat), and 20k miles in they are wearing great. Would recommend 10/10. Current price at Sams Club (July/23):

Ambient lighting works fine for me on 22110.

    False Alarm Drivers Door

Oddly enough, this happened to me <and> one of my buddies last night, then again to me today. I was at my friend's place for a kids birthday party, he has a 2019 Expy that was parked behind mine on the street. At around 730pm last night, both of our alarms started going off simultaneously, but...

Update all versions of Ford Sync 3 to the latest Sync 3.4

Waze via Android Auto. Its worked fine for me for years, but I just recently upgraded to a new Pixel 6a and I started having the problems shortly thereafter, maybe immediately on the switch. I was hoping that the 3.4.22110 upgrade would solve the issue but sadly that is not the case. This is...

Update all versions of Ford Sync 3 to the latest Sync 3.4

Ran the upgrade Friday night, took 28 minutes and seems to be working great. I performed a master reset right after the install and I've not noticed any issues. I was trying to fix two specific problems with this upgrade: 1. When receiving calls while connected to bluetooth, callers could...

Update all versions of Ford Sync 3 to the latest Sync 3.4

Mine is a 2018, June build IIRC. I ran the CyanLabs interrogator today after spending a couple hours reading the forums over there. My APIM version has a number of people who have upgraded without issue. Currently planning to run the upgrade on Saturday, I'll post results on how it goes...

What tires and wheels for towing

I went with the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 275/55/R20 specifically because they have the 117H load rating (2833lbs per tire at 51psi). I pulled a 7000# boat 1000 miles with the tires at 44psi and they are fantastic. Fuel mileage is also up from high 17's to 20.8 over the factory Hankooks.

Update all versions of Ford Sync 3 to the latest Sync 3.4

The latest option I see for Sync Version in Syn3 (2.11.4.0) is 3.4.22110 and the maps version I selected is NA 2 20 (latest in the dropdown). My truck (Aug/2018) is still running 3.0.19205 which I assume was the factory version and I suspect may affect which options I can choose from the...

In praise of the Perelli scorpion AS Plus 3

I had a new set of Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires installed at the end of June in preparation for a couple road trips we had planned, one of which was towing a large boat from Port Clinton OH to Lake Cumberland (1,000 miles round trip), then a road trip to OBX (~1500 miles round trip). I had...

Update all versions of Ford Sync 3 to the latest Sync 3.4

Transfer case, front axle, and rear diff fluid change.

I went thru with the fluid change - the old fluid was clear and did not smell 'burned', so I probably didn't need to change it. I can rest easy now though knowing that I have fresh synthetic gear lube in the rear end though. The process of changing the fluid was easy - 3/8th ratchet and some...

Transfer case, front axle, and rear diff fluid change.

I'm about to drain/fill the rear differential (and maybe the front too) since I had the "ELSD Reduced Torque" message. I was trying to get the details on fluid type/capacity and figured I'd share what I found here to save someone time in the future. Interestingly the manual says the rear axle...

    Heavy Duty Towing Trip Report

Just got back from a trip where we towed our 27' boat from Port Clinton, OH to Lake Cumberland, KY, and back. I bought the 2018 Expy specifically for the task of towing a large boat. TL/DR: I've been making this trip all my life and I'm comfortable pulling a trailer, dealing with wind...

Replacing rear brake pads and rotors

I didn't have time to be picky, so I just went with the painted Carquest rotors from Advance Auto and the Carquest Gold pads: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/cqprt/12070203-P https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/carquest-premium-gold-ceramic-brake-pads-rear-4-pad-set-gnad1790/ So far, so...

Front Brake Pad Replacement - Gen4

The truck seems to stop better, but thats all subjective, I have no data to back up that statement. A low rumble would seem to me to be a wheel bearing, which I feel like a number of people have had replaced early on in life. The way I diagnose this is to find two freeway exits/onramps, one...

Front Brake Pad Replacement - Gen4

I noticed that my bottom caliper bolt was a little seized, so I pulled both pins out, wiped them off and then liberally applied anti-seize and reinstalled. #Cleveland Reinstall the caliper and torque it down, then reinstall the wheel (after liberally applying anti-seize to the face of the rotor...

Front Brake Pad Replacement - Gen4

With the old pads removed, I used one to compress the pistons back into the caliper using a regular 6" C-clamp. Make sure you compress the pistons all the way - I did not on the first try and when reinstalling the caliper over the new pads one of the pistons would not clear a tab that was on...

Front Brake Pad Replacement - Gen4

I'm back with the next installment on how to save yourself $400 by replacing your own brakes - Front Pad edition. This time however I'm only replacing the pads as the rotors were fine. Like the rears, this is an 8-bolt job - six lug nuts (21mm) and two caliper bolts (13mm). I did the second...
