    Roof Rack Part

The whole rack assembly comes apart. The end caps snap on, I found that large carriage bolts fit the main rails perfectly.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I replaced all the plugs and coil packs. The noise went way down. The engine also seems to be running smother. The ignition buzz is still present, but way down. I have a solid ground to a nearby piece of chassis on the back of the radio. Next is to check the grounding at the antenna.

    FORScan codes that came up

I get a similar problem on my 2017 XLT. After it rains, when the car has been sitting for a few days. My solution has been to let the engine idle and warm up. Then shut it off and re-start. On the re-start all modules seem to initialize correctly.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I have 3 ferrite slugs in-line with the +12. Ground return is about a foot of heavy copper wire bolted to a welded piece of frame. I also added a 0.01uf across the +12/GND just inside the chassis.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I have zeroed in on the plug coils. I pulled them all, scrapped corrosion, checked contacts, a moved them to different cylinders, Didn't make any difference. Today, I went through and checked the radio antenna and DC grounds. Re-did the chassis ground to get a better connection, didn't help...

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

A little update to my CB noise investigation. I found the radio "noise blanker" settings were suppressing some of the noise. Once disabled, the noise appeared to be plain engine ignition noise. A RPM related buzz. I pulled all the plug coils, scrapped corrosion and made sure all the coils...

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I'll give it a shot, once I get back to the simulator.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I created a crude wire "expedition" in xnec2c. Tried various whip placements. The center of the roof gets the best omni-directioal coverage. The attached simulations are for a wire loop on top of my roof box. It needs a little tweaking to get the match, but it has a nice broad band response...

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

Thank's to all for the good suggestions. I think my next step will be to re-work my antenna mount to ensure good ground contact between the coax shield and car body at the mount point. Then use a spectrum analyzer to correlate noise with sources. The antenna is a loaded whip center mounted on...

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

This could be it. I drilled a hole in the roof. The coax ground to the roof metal may have gotten flakey. I need to rework the antenna anyway. It has intermittent VSWR problems. Dry <1.4, wet >2.5 sometimes driving it changes.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

After a bit of investigation, you are correct. There is no electrical boost pump. I did find a electrically operated, "Turbocharger bypass valve."

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

I'll go back in and look. Possibly add a ground strap. I didn't put multiple ferrite chokes on the +12 which helped. The turbo boost kicks in when you accelerate and drops once you are at speed. I listened to the noise for awhile to associate the sound. There is other noise associated with...

Rough idle after new coil packs & plugs

If you have FORSAN reset the engine control module. Also check for misfiring cylinders. Could be the coil packs didn't seat correctly or are NFG.

Blue Screen on Rearview Mirror Temporarily

I have a 2017, the rear camera goes out periodically. There is a coax connector inside the lift gate that needs a wiggle. I unsnap the trim at the top of the lift gate a reach down to get to the connector with my finger tips. Doesn't take much wiggle, but it fixes the problem.

    Turbo Boost causes CB buzz

One of the noise sources in my CB radio appears to be associated with the Turbo boost pump kicking in. Has anybody else seen this? Is there a fix?

    PCM Self test error code

New battery, but the intermittent ground is a good pointer. I'll get out my wiring book and look for a common connection.

    PCM Self test error code

2017 XLT ~150k miles I'm having a intermittent problem at first start when I have not used the suv in a few days. When I first start I get multiple module (ABS, PSCM, PAM, RCM) failures and multiple dash warnings. Switch it off ... try again ... everything seems to be working fine. Doesn't...

Would like to see Ham, GMRS, CB radio installs on Gen 3 Expedition

There actually is a small bracket at the very base of the center console. The curved panel comes off and a small radio will fit. I put a Stryker v2 in there. But I had to cut back the chassis. I used a table saw, not a task for the faint of heart.

    FORSCAN on Linux

I've used Linux for everything for a long time. I have one remaining Windows 11 laptop which I seldom use. You are correct about WINE being a extra (probably slightly buggy) layer. It has been under development for a long time. But doesn't work for everything. To date I have found no...

    Forscan running on Linux WINE

I have had Forscan windows version running on the Linux WINE for quite awhile now. It seem to be fully functional. Upgrades work too. My base system is a laptop running Fedora 38 XFCE ( I have not tried it on GNOME. ) WINE version: 8.12 ( anything after 8.5 seems to work) Tested interface...

    Blower Motor recall personal experience

I had issues with the motor long ago. The chassis wiring connector had a melted contact. The motor side of the connection was okay. I went online and purchased a replacement connector. Which I spliced into the wiring harness. No problems since. In my case the motor and resistor bank were...

    CB Engine noise

I have engine noise coming through on all channels of my CB. I added ferrite and filter capacitors to the DC, so that doesn't appear to be the source. Some of the noise appears to be associated with the turbo boost kicking on. The remainder appears to be ignition related. Hints or solutions...

    FORSCAN on Linux

Forscan appears to be working under linux-wine now. I haven't checked all the functions, but everything I've looked at appears to work just as it did under windows.
