Intermittently, and without any obvious cause, my a/c will stop blowing high through the dash vents. If I turn the fan up, I can hear the air volume increase, but it won't come out of the vents. It's going somewhere.

Any ideas? I'm guessing a gate somewhere is failing, but don't even know where to begin.

I don't know what an evap case is. I think I have a cabin filter. I'll look tonight at home. I know if I do it hasn't been changed in years.

This is where the air goes to be conditioned ,the evaporator and the heater core live here. The air that comes from the outside might pass through a cabin filter first.
as the filter gets dirty the volume gets less and less possably causing evap freez up
and your problem
