Hi Folks!

I have a new to me '03 Expy EB with HD Tow Package.

I bought a Tekonsha P3 + Ford Harness.

With the key off, the power to the controller is on. Is this normal?

I suspect the previous owner modded to power to the outlets to be "always on". I might have to undo all of that - but I want to make sure that it's not supposed to be like that from the factory.

Thanks

Jack

I have the same controller - and harness - yes it stays on factory, somewhere I read that the OBD port and it share power - the P3 will shut down on it's own after enough time - you'll probably notice it always on however as even opening the door make the controller sense movement and power back up. You can catch it off if you sneak a look in the window after I believe 15 minutes of inactivity

Just FYI, the power outlets are always on from the factory :)

When not hooked to a trailer, the P3 draws a trivial amount of power -- just enough for two led lights on the front. I wouldn't worry about the P3 running down your battery unless it's a really old batt and on its last legs.

And it does turn itself off after a few hours, so that helps, too.
