They have laid off 1/3 of the coyote production workforce. Directly in response to consumer demand! Interesting.

It’s probably the Mustang sales drop. Last two years Mustang sales have dramatically slowed as well as many other muscle cars in the segment. Also that 1/3 of the coyote workforce is being transferred to the new 7.3L V8 production line for the F-250 & F-350

The new 7.3L V8 has been named "Godzilla." Can hear it now... "I have Godzilla under my hood!"

I have always wondered why they don’t offer the 3.5 ecoboost in the mustang? It would absolutely be the one to buy. I would seriously consider selling mine and buying a new one if they ever did. Obviously it would cannibalize sales of the 5.0

The new 7.3 will have 385hp/430torq and can be tuned for more if need be. There are more than enough videos on YouTube that show the new 7.3.

That is incorrect. The current base 6.2L V8 has 385 horsepower and 430 LB FT.

The 7.3 is estimated to be 435-450 horsepower and 510-525 lb ft from sources I’ve read. It’s purpose is to bridge the gap between the 6.2 gas and 6.7 diesel.

The ecoboost lacks top end power and the classic sound, what a pony car/ mustang buyer generally is after. The new gen 3 Coyote with peak 460/480 horsepower and 420 lb ft is wild. Less than 4 sec 0-60 stock on a GT. The ecoboost generally runs out of steam past 4,500 rpm, where the 5.0 starts to shine.

Mustang sales have slowed since the 18’ redesign from what I’ve read. I’m not a fan of the new look nor are most buyers.

I agree EDIZZLE
I have 2 generation II 3.5L ECOBOOSTS
Both are tuned with 5 star calibrations & Pull hard to 6000 rpm
Would make a great Pony Car Engine

The 5.0 only makes good power up top, so it lacks power all the way until it gets there! lol

Too much self competition to the V8. What comes to mind with the Mustang V8 5.0. Yes they strayed from it starting in 96 for a little over a decade but it was still a V8.

Same reason the SVO was killed in 86. The 4 cylinder Turbo had the same 200hp as the V8 5.0 and the dual over head cam 2.3L turbo Ford had developed for 87 well surpassed the 5.0 in power.
