gear selector shows neutral when in reverse

I do apologize if I have violated the terms of the forum but i didn't find the EXACT answer so... the gear selector on my 2000 XLT toy shows half between reverse and Neutral when in Reverse. I am unable to find out find out how to move the selector back to park when actually in park. I know where the torx screws are and can tighten them but it doesn't move the selector.

Am I missing something???? thanks for the help... more of an annoyance than anything else...

Theres an adjuster under the dash that you can turn to adjust it. Follow the cable from the cable to the little 6.5mm screw (I may be wrong. Its been a while). Ill take a pic tomorrow
