Putting 22s on my max

do I need a lift or level for my 2019 Xlt Max to install 22 inch rims and 285/45/22 tires

Or can I just throw them on and not worry about rubbing.

I have 22’s and that tire size from the factory as OE. If they’re an aftermarket wheel, you just have to check the offset (in and out) that could be different but shouldn’t be a problem since the wheel wells are pretty big on these vehicles.

You will be fine with a 285/45r22 on the Expedition if the wheel itself is suited for the truck. I run the same size and a 305/40r23 on mine without an issue
