I know this will cause a lot of disagreement, but are there any good test on recent radar detectors? I know the Valentine was considered the absolute best for a long time, but it doesn't seem to have been updated for many years. I was searching on the WEB and most of the reports where just " we thought.." no real testing, i have an Escort Passport 9500 that is a few years old and wanting to replace it with something better, looking for suggestions, I don't speed too often but I like having the detector (its my safety blanket when driving!).

My biggest issue with the escort is that in the 6+ years I have owned it the lazer detector has NEVER gone off, despite me driving past police officers that where using lazer speed guns, I realize it can't save me from a lazer gun, just tell me that the police have got my speed, but I would still like a detector that has a much larger lazer detector that can be mounted on the front of the car and actually warn me when Lazer is being used!!

Any suggestions (slow down is not really useful!!).

I still use the Valentines. They do update the internals, but never really the externals. I like their performance, and love the arrows. Works well with laser ( unique tone...), but my experience is, laser is kinda rare to see still. It usually requires more labor since it has to be targeted at a specific vehicle, and here in Florida anyway, when it's hot outside, they just want to sit in the air conditioned car and let the radar do the work. They can't hide behind the trees or bus stops with the laser, they gotta be fairly exposed, and have a visual on the vehicle their targeting and hit it for a few seconds to confirm speed. I don't really speed either, just flow with traffic, but it's nice to have a heads up of speed traps anyway ( besides the glare of brake lights in front of you...).

I’ve used a Valentines 1 since they were introduced and have upgraded multiple times throughout the years. Then in 2017 I found vortex radar and ditched my V1 for a Radenso. Although I miss my arrows it is well worth the trade off for have a quiet detector that doesn’t false all the time and keeps quiet under ~25 MPH. Valentine has been dethroned. Even his V1 G2 falls short. Detection is good but the filters suck. No red light cams, no Multa, and BSM and the Cadilac radar rejection suck. I don’t think it even handles the traffic monitor radar at all. Radenso is supposed to be coming out with a super detector sporting AI, but unfortunately it has been just talk for well over a year.

But overall, I would take a look at Vortexradar and make a decision from there.
