So I brought the truck into the shop because it was hesitating at 1500 rpm unless I had the cruise on. I expected it was going to be a COP and plug, as many on here predicted.

They did the diagnostics and told me that wasn't the problem. There was some little part way in the back of the engine that was giving them errors, and by the way, did I know my engine was replaced at 72,000? No, I didn't, and yes, please tear the engine down and fix that part.

So they got to that part and called me to say that wasn't the problem. It was the vacuum tube going to the part. For some reason it was blowing instead of sucking (I'm a dirty bastard, I admit it). It was likely replaced at some point in the past and they didn't run it right or hook it up properly.

So they test drove it and it worked fine for a while, but then lo and behold, the check engine light comes on. The problem?

COP.

Total cost of the entire proceedure: $787.00.

Picked the truck up today and I must admit, it drives really, really well now. I can actually make it up hills without needing my hazards on! Next stop! Getting rid of that smoke smell.

Make friends with a someone at a dealership with a good used car department. They use a plug in "wand" for lack of a better word that generates ozone and will get rid of any smell you can imagine. They plug it in close up the car and let it work for a day or so. Then it's nothing but new car smell.
