I have a 2000 expedition and when I go from a dead stop and accelerate sometimes it wants to almost die and hesitate then go. It SEEMS that it only does it when im turning right from a dead stop but I could be playing mind games. Anyone have a clue? I have already replaced the fuel filter and it seemed to fix it for a couple of weeks and now its doing it again.

try checking the rubber elbow on the passenger side of the throttle body... it's part of the PCV system and often they deteriorate and collapse on themselves and cause the engine to hesitate... sometimes causing a CEL but when mine went I did not get a CEL

ok this worked great for me, first, unplug the negative battery cable, and let it sit for 30 minutes, then put it back on and let it idle for 5 minutes, then take t back off for 30 seconds, then drive it around, check engine light should be off if it was on and hessitation should stop!!! im so happy it worked

actually that didnt work, when we took it in, it ended up being the camshaft sensor was disconnected from a previous repair, so its probally the camshaft sensor

Hesitation from an idle is usually an intake leak of some sort. A lot of times it's a loose vacuum hose like from the brake canister or pcv valve. Mine kept acting up on my explorer causing high rpm rise immediately after startup, and then low/high rpm surging, stalling etc. It ended up being a loose hose clamp on the intake pipe AFTER the MAF sensor and BEFORE the throttle body. That meant every time I stepped on the accelerator I'd get air that wasn't being measured from the MAF sensor because it was sucking in after the MAF sensor at the loose clamp.

Possibly you could have a bad ignition lead? Right off/above idle under load is usually when weak spark plug wires will allow a spark to jump to ground. If you suspect that, it's easy to find if looking at it in the dark while someone holds it in gear and steps on the gas and brake to simulate a heavy load. The sparks will show up easily.

I would check the OHMs coming out and going into the MAF to see if they are at specs, sounds like the MAF is tripping cause the signal is not getting to the ECU correctly and its adjusting the fuel/air mixture so the truck could run. Is there a check engine light on or is it an intermittent thing?

its intermittent. It almost seems like it does it more when Im turning from a stop. It kinda falls on its face then quickly comes back. Its annoying though and I was gonna try to fix it myself before I take it to someone.

My 98 explorer had a bad problem of stalling when turning left. It would only do it when the engine was hot, and only within the first 5 minutes after restarting a hot engine- like after running inside a fast food place or something. It would also do it if you drove at a slow speed of around 35 mph for long period of time, followed by stopping at a traffic light and then turning left.

Apparently Ford went through 7 or more design changes on the fuel pump pick up design because of this issue. If the tank was within 1/4 of being empty was when it acted up the most. We changed the pump and it still did it once in a while, but was much better.

We almost got killed in a head on accident with an 18 wheeler because it stalled 1/2 way across an intersection, and the 18 wheeler was coming down a bridge in the rain. I had figured out that if I power brake before turning left it would give me warning of whether it would stall or not. That was my safety measure, if it stalls so what I was still not rolling into traffic...This time however it let me all the way out into the road before stalling. Somehow I got it in neutral and restarted, and got out of the way just in time. When I looked in the rear view the 18 wheeler had already passed.

Any new updates? Did you change the filter again and see what's in the old one?
