LOL I had it replaced a month ago due to broken knob. Guess it’s going back again!!!

My wife had the passenger side of her dash replaced under warranty by Mazda. When she got it back, I noticed the light had disappeared from the shifter. I popped the cover off and noticed they had broken the lightbulb holder and tried to hide it with electrical tape. I took it back and insisted they replace it. The resisted because doing so would require replacement of the entire shifter assembly, but eventually caved since they are the ones that broke it. When we got it back, something looked off. It isn't my car so it took me a few, but then I realized it was the shifter knob. It was an entirely different knob. Back to the dealer again. They ordered the shifter assembly for the Sport model, which has a different knob than the Grand Touring, which is what my wife has. They found her original shifter knob sitting on a workbench in the back and swapped them. No big deal, but I have to wonder how the f*** these techs don't notice these things when they're doing the job.

Meh. No biggie. I’m sure my dealer will get a kick out of this.
Wow, can't believe they messed up that bad...

Tech out in the shop:

"We got some extra wires here boys... Ah, just tuck them behind the center console, customer might not notice"

Refreshing attitude...mistakes happen, but no need to crucify someone. I’m sure they will make it right.
Mistakes are like missing screw or two, not connecting a wire. When you flat out put a wrong center console, that is not a mistake. That is just either being ignorant or don't deserved to be a mechanic. Mistakes do happen, but this is not a mistake, IMHO

I’m curious if the wrong console was installed from the factory and the mechanic pulled it off and put it back on not knowing it was the wrong one to begin with. I’m no professional mechanic but I’ve turned my fair share of wrenches and if I’m removing items the never stray far from what I’m working on. For the wrong console to be put back it would either be switched with another one in the shop at that moment or they had to grab one from the parts bin which being a console I’d be surprised if they stocked that.

Unless the entire console was replaced due to a broken knob?

Yeah, give us some updates. Wonder if it was factory, technician, or dealer selling you the wrong vehicle by charging for something it wasn’t there in the first place.

I broke a knob at a tailgate recently. Had them replace the whole console (they said they couldn’t just replace the knob). Took a week to order and only a couple hours to install.

Unfortunately they replaced my platinum console with the base model.

I called them to let them know, so they just placed an order for the right one. I will get it installed a just after turkey day.

Not a big deal.
