Sunroof Cover Noise

Hi All,

I have a '17 EL Limited with the sunroof. When going over bumps, the sunroof cover rattles (more of a low thump sound) when in the full closed position. If I open it even just part way, the noise goes away. It seems like the cover is loose in there somehow, but it slides freely and seems to work like it should. No problems with the sunroof itself.

Anybody have a similar problem and find a fix? It drives me nuts because the truck is otherwise so quiet. I live in AZ, so it stays closed most of the time so I don't burn my scalp off.

If you're still under manufacturer warranty, just take it to the dealer and make them replace it. If not, sunroofs are dangerous and finicky things to start playing with.

I have seen people take minor sunroof problems like yours and turn them into to full on nightmares by nicking a piece or weather stripping or pulling something just a tiny bit out of place.

With the cover fully closed and going over bumps, would you mind slightly touching the front of the cover & see if the noise stops?

Any pressure on the cover seems to stop the noise. It just seems to be a little loose in there when closed.

Unfortunately, it’s out of warranty. I’ve learned about messing too much with sunroofs the hard way. May just have to live with it.

Put a strip of something like this on the front sill of the cover.
