Yep. The older models didn't.

It may not have a gauge but the truck knows the temp, get it too high and you’ll be getting warnings in the message center. Lots of people have it displayed on a/m head units and such, no reason to drill in anything.

I could never get it to display on my Maestro RR and Kenwood unit when I had those installed, so I gave up on it.

I would want to check it as well if one of the warnings indicated.

My '02 SLK came w/o a tranny dipstick as well, 17 years ago so maybe it's not American cars that set the disappearance act in motion? I think these things are getting very close to what your washer motor/tranny is, a sealed unit. When they all go electric, they will be. Thankfully, some of the more common issues are serviceable from the pan today. For the SLK, it came with a tube and a hard non-removable cap so it was a simple matter to find out how long a stick you needed. This is a bit more difficult but I suppose there will be those that will spend 200 to see it for themselves rather than stress over it. For most of us, I suspect the evidence in the driveway would be proof enough that it need to be checked so we'll crawl under it at that time.

I appreciate the posting, I prob read about the on-tranny stick but never "knew" it.

Thanks

jeff

I like to keep an eye on the color as well as the level and with the dipstick being the huge PITA it is to check, that task isn't the kind of thing I can do on the way to work like I do with the engine oil. Either way though, it's nice to have an easy way to fill it rather than crawling under there with a pump. $200 is a ridiculous for what it is, but I'll probably pick one up during one of the holiday sales just for the convenience of it.

On the issue of the extended dip stick and tube...the shorter version for the Mustang is $100, the longer version for the F150 & Expo is $200. Yes it is a lot to spend, I wish Ford had an OEM option. However as others have pointed out it will certainly make checking and filling much easier. And for those that keep their vehicles until the wheels fall off and then repair that, the old style tube will be handy for the when the old tranny develops a drip.....LOL

I'm not sure of the tube to tranny connect since I'm not studying the website that sells them.....

But guys, think for a sec....a tube is a tube is a tube, right? No one here has thought about a piece of soft copper or flexible alum tubing? Or even 1/4" wall, 3/8" fuel line would also probably work fine once strapped into place. The stick from the junkyard truck will work once you know the proper heights when inserted.

(on the slk forum, someone posted the fluid distance from the bottom of the tranny when stuck in as far as it would go---this was very helpful)

Sorry, workarounds instantly come to mind when I see something like a 200 dipstick.
