Mother in laws 21 expedition was bought used with 60,000 miles. It has about 75,000 now. I know the dealer says 150,000 but they like to sell rebuilt transmissions. Some say change the filter and fluid in the pan and don't flush. (I wouldn't flush this high mileage trans anyway). Then change the fluid in the pan after another 10,000 miles. One Ford tech I listened to said to put synthetic Amsoil ulv in instead of Ford ulv. I just need a little information from those who have dealt with 10r/80 transmission.

Screw what ford tells you. It’s your car. You do you boo.

At 60k when my warranty is up I’m upgrading to the PPE deep pan.

Yes to changing the fluid and filter. After 21MY, the transmission had some upgraded parts that made them more reliable. If you are planning to keep vehicle long term, you may want to price out a powertrain warranty through ESP; these 10R80s are quite expensive to replace.

What were the upgraded parts?

Upgraded parts - FlyingWrenches on YouTube has a few videos on this. He’s a former Ford Dealer mechanic now independent who has rebuilt a bunch.

(Below are shorts, several minutes each)

Here’s one - New parts at overhaul

Here’s another - $6k overhaul cost

Most common failure point for 10R80 up through 2022 - bushing improved 2023+

Eh, you get all new fluid and filter when it's rebuilt/replaced every 50K miles, right? :D

So sad. :(
