How many on this site have had their Rear Evaporator replaced for a/c in the rear for leaking freon. My 2020 went out with 48k on it. Have Ford Protect that covers it. Just wonder what the price was for repair. My FP expires 12/26 and without a doubt will be renewing it for another 6 yrs. Price is affordable.
I have had Trans work done on 6/25 so with this added repair it has really been worth having.

Replaced rear evaporator at 38,000 miles
Fought with Ford to repair under warranty being I was only 2000 miles over
No luck, best they would do is discount the parts with all labor and recharge on me
Fords price with discounted parts was $2800
I ended up at an independent shop and had the work done for $1800

Got mine done back in Summer 2024. It was $1600 for near rear evap, Motorcraft and it was only 7oz of Y1234 refrigerant. It holds about 40oz so it was $5 an oz back then. Pretty pricey. so far so good two years later.

Keep renewing that warranty. There are other anomalies that maybe could go wrong. Just keep receipts to show maintenance items that have been done. You can enter them on your Mobile Ford App. Ford repairs enter them also except if you change oil, cabin filters, Air filters and so on that aren't done at a Ford Dealership.

It was just replaced in February 2026 at 55,000 miles by the dealer. Had a pronounced hissing noise from the rear passenger side compartment. It was initially diagnosed as being the blower motor. I agreed to that repair. Then they figured out it was the evaporator, but agreed to only charge me for the blower motor quote.

Blower motor quote: $1155.75
Evaporator quote: $1882.55

Thanks for mentioning that you can enter service yourself in the app. I didn't know that!

That was a reasonable price. I don't understand the misdiagnose. Was the a/c not blowing cold to the rear? I would assume if the core was leaking freon the refrigerant would have leaked out.

Yeah. No complaints paying the lesser of the two prices. I don't know about the misdiagnosis. Maybe I caught it very early and it was still kind of cold? It was also winter, so we were not running it very much. After a day of hearing the hiss, I searched here for clues and came across a post about the noise coming from the expansion valve, indicating a leak. After that, I just brought it in. I specifically mentioned that clue to the service writer, but

That's a very good question. I couldn't imagine what the cost would be. You could aways talk to an F&I Person at your neighborhood Ford dealer. Just give him the Vin# and he would let you know and pricing. That to me would be a good start. Or use the Ford app number and ask them. That may be easier.

I got a quote. It was going to be something ridiculous like 6 grand for an additional 36 months… don’t remember the mileage (at the 25k miles we drive it wouldn’t have been long).
