I have an 04 Ford Expedition 5.4 and I just noticed next to the oil stick tube on the driver side of engine, I have an UNPLUGGED Vacuum line coming UP towards the Power Steering Resivor from the main harness below. The vacuum line has a curved top and a small clip/holder to clip it onto something. The Clip fits the brake line but I can't find any place to plug in the line, nor can I hear any vacuum noise with the engibe running. Can anyone assist me in identifyinmg where this hose go? Any help appreciated.

Yes.. It "could" be a vent, but I'm NOT sure. It is an actual plastic vacuum line. Do you have an 04 Expedition that you can check and see if this line is connected to anything or is it just a vent???
Thanks for responding.

Well, I just went and checked. The only hose I see with a 90-degree connecting boot is connected to the bottom of a device that is mounted on the firewall at 11:00 next to the brake master cylinder.

However, after fishing around I have found my own mystery hose - in about the same location! It is black corrugated plastic about 3/8-inch diameter and is loose floating around by the stearing column universal joint. The loose end is melted through! No 90-degree boot, though. It comes up from a larger line mounted on the bottom of the engine compartment below the brake resevoir. Go Figure!! It looks like it might have melted from the stainless steel tube above the drivers side valve cover - the stainless steel tube has a braided heat protector over part of it. Guess I'll have to stop at the stealership sometime - I haven't had any problems as a result of it, though.

Thanks for checking. I believe we may be speaking about the same hose. The reason mine may have the bent angle could be because of the heat. I guess I'll have to take it in to the stealership soon. Well, I'm due for my 15,000 mile check up, so I guess I'll get it done. Thanks again for checking. This could be a defect in design.
