2000 5.4 rear end noise

i have a 2000 EB with a 5.4 ,
tonight i noticed a noise and i was wondering if anyone would know what it is.. when i put it back and fourth from reverse to drive and hit the gas a little i hear a metal clang noise, only when i first hit the gas then its gone, but when i switch to reverse or to drive again a clang noise??? not sure what it is.. is it usual for the rear end to make that clang noise.. there is no driving issue but it does not sound to healthy.. anyone??

do you park you truck on a incline and that clan sounds like it might be the transmission just shifting gear and the fluid pressure building up, it also could be universal joint slop in the driveshaft or ring and pionion slop
