Hey all
I have a 17 xl limited. I was having a noise issue in the front end. So we replaced both iwe, cv axles and hub assembly. I’m still hearing a noise coming from the front end like it’s not disengaging. It will engage in 4h and 4l with no problem. When it does go into 4l there’s a loud clunk when shifting in or out of it.

Anyone else had this problem?
Yes I have checked the vaccum on the lines up too and at the hubs and I’m getting 27” of vaccum pressure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you replace the vacuum, inline check valve?

Loud 'clunk' shifting into 4L is pretty normal, especially if you're on any sort of an incline. A whining noise could be the result of old gunky fluid in either the transfer case or differential.

You didn't state how many miles are on your vehicle. If 100K+, and the noise doesn't go away after a bit, check/replace your front differential fluid.

Also check/replace your transfer case fluid (pricey). They say that it's a 'lifetime fluid', but it's not.

Had a whine and that cleared it up.

There is a service bulletin to replace the fluid in the front differential with a heavier weight. I chased the same problem and it seems the front differential turns in 2wd due to the type of drive in the transfer case. Mine needed new bearings in the front differential@ 40k miles! Quite the poor design.
