I know this post is a little old but just found it. In regards to the transfer case I have a 99 f150 for parts that was wrecked but it has a shifter accuated transfer case no switches. Don't know if it was just behind the v-6's o not. Just thought i would let you guys know.
just an update on this i didn't like listening to the compressor inside when it kicked on so i made brackets and mounted t behind the front bumper. With making the brackets i also made a skiplate for the front since there wasn't one on my exped. everything came out nice just waiting on the...
mine gets about 14-15 around town not towing and this weekend i towed my camper for the first time about 100miles across the state of florida and averaged about 14 towing at 55 mph. only mods done are k&n filter and straight piped exhaust.
decide just to mount tank and compressor in the cargo area. makes alittle noise when the compressor comes on but i can live with it. thanks for the ideas though
on-board air
i looked underneath and the only spot that the tank seems to fit is on the outside of the frame right behind the front tires but i don't want things flying off the tire and hitting the tank.

Just bought a viar onboard air system and trying to figure out where to mount the 2.5 gallon tank and compressor on my 98 expedition 4x4. Anybody done this before that can give me some ideas. really not wanting to mount it in the cargo area but that is the only place i see fit.
