It is his money and he can spend it anyway he wants to spend it. Just as I choose to get my oil tested every time I change it. I enjoy reading the reports and seeing the changes over time.
See that's where we differ, I'd throw out the tire and the wheel and buy new ones rather than risking a major blowout at highway speed with myself or my passengers. Money is of little value if you aren't around to spend it. I don't take unnecessary risks.
Personal opinion - I don't take chances with with tires or wheels. If it is remotely questionable replace both. So in other words, when in doubt, throw it out! The tragedy that can happen at 70 MPH when a tire suddenly lets go is not worth the risk, particularly if my family is riding in the...

I did this modification. 2-1/2 years ago and replaced the tail lights with LED tail lights. I'm pretty sure I created a thread with pictures, but I'm not going to take the time to look for it. :)
The Michelin Defender LTX M/S are a different tire than the M/S 2 and have a better rating then then M/S 2. I'm going to take my chance on them and see what happens.
Very nice. I would have put them on already but I fell and broke my left arm up at the shoulder so I haven't been working for the last three weeks so that project is on hold. The good thing is I didn't have to drive in the snow on Monday, the bad thing is that my arm still hurts like hell. :)...
