This is how I did it on my 2000 Expy 2wd.
Turn off the sir suspension switch. Jack vehicle up. Remove rear tires. Support rear end. Remove lower shock mount bolts. Remove lower sway bar mounts and let sway bar swing free. Lower rear end all the way down. Pull out pin on top of air...
Well I turned on the switch and the pump kept going on and off. Can I turn on the switch and then unplug the pump? Even if I plug the lines, I think the pump will keep turning on and off.

I too would like to know the answer to this question. I converted my rear air suspension this past weekend and I immediately noticed how "loose" the steering felt.
Hopefully one of the knowledgable folks can help us out.
