I don't think you need a bent pipe at all. I just put a Thrush glasspack on my '98 Expy and all I needed was a reducer for the outlet. A 2 1/2" straight pipe with a reducer at the outlet will do the trick. I posted some pics of how I did mine over on the Ford Truck Enthusiast forum here...
I can't tell you for certain about the drop in aspect, but my experience with LED lights it that they generate little to no heat...way last than conventional bulbs. I pretty much replace everything that burns out with LEDs, from my shop lights to my tail lights!
