    04 lift using Bilstien struts

Guys, I put out a post on here a few years ago about this. I installed Bilstein 5100s that were advertised for the 04-08 F150. I coupled them with new Ac Delco (american made) coils for the F150. The Bilstein 5100 has 3 levels of lift you can choose from. I installed using the factory (again...

    04 5.4 won't switch into 3rd gear

@Hondobud excellent advice. Also @Chefkris if you remove the accumulator to replace it, check to make sure the bore isn't scratched. Consider installing the upgrade kit from Sonnax if that appears to be the problem. Although a transmission shop is capable of testing and diagnosing whether it is...

    Will 33s fit without mods?

I put 33s on my 04 a few years ago with no lift, and the factory wheels. No rubbing. Since then I lifted the front 2 inches (Bilstein 5100) and the rear 1.5 inches (steel spacer lift and Bilstein 4600 shocks). Wtih those suspension upgrades and after replacing all the tie rods, its way better on...

    New from Eastern WA

Welcome @cpaul511. I am originally from Richland, just a few miles from you. Not too often I run into fellow 509ers! Nice rig you have there.

Circuit breaker 401 remaining warm while looking for parasitic drain.

@whtbronco Thanks, this is interesting. Does this diagram indicate that the parasitic can be narrowed down to either the window switch or the roof opening, or am I being too simplistic (as usual)? It might be possible that if the Accessory Delay is providing constant power when it should be, 401...

    Another Timing Job Question -2003 5.4L 2V

Been a few years since I did the timing on mine, but to answer some of your questions, I did not need to use a special tool to replace the front main seal. And yes, definitely worth replacing all lash adjusters and rocker arms while the heads are off. It is alot more difficult to replace the...

    Fuel Pump electrical Issues

Is the relay failing each time you replace it? If so, it may be that the pump still works but is drawing excessive amperage because it is in the process of failing. Thats what happened with mine and Usually that is the case in 03-04s, although it theoretically could also be short between the...

    high mileage for current job

The the 03s and 04s are an excellent value and good for exactly what you are using it for. I have 165k on my 04, which is the same thing as the 03. Very reliable with a few weakpoints such as the intake manifold (coolant and/or vacuum leaks), fuel pump, and fuel pump solenoid. Mine drives like a...

    Is it time??

@Tonka I would replace the engine vs a timing job due to the amount of miles you have on it, and swapping an engine is not much more work than a timing job on these. A new engine done by a good mechanic will cost $8-10k. I would do it myself, for around $5k for the engine and other parts I would...

    Chasing P0171 and P0175 Simultaneously

Good find. EGRs will develop leaks like that. Did it fix the misfire?

    Chasing P0171 and P0175 Simultaneously

Interesting problem. This is a new one for me. I would check for vacuum leaks using a smoke machine. Lots of 20 year old trucks have developed leaks in the vac lines, elbows, etc. In addition, These engines like to warp the intake manifolds. you can try squirting water on the seam between the...

03 Expy 5.4 Rough idle & other symptoms

Agree with @whtbronco, check the stuff he mentioned, starting with the spark plugs - they will tell you a lot. Usually misfires on Gen 2s are caused by bad coils, then people replace them with low quality aftermarket coils, which can be bad right out of the box. One way to double check that is...

    Crank but no start

Sounds like a fuel pump or fuel pump relay. In my case on my 04, it was both. Check fuel pressure and the relay. alot of times the relay can be diagnosed visually - they get corroded and will stop working. I would also check the evap purge valve. Lots of info on youtube regarding how to check...

    Engine noise

@Lenny I pulled the PS pump without removing the pulley and I will never make that mistake again. Took me about 2 hours to remove (and then install) those bolts because the pulley was in the way. Another tip: remove the two heater hoses to enable the RH valve cover to come out easier (replace...

    Engine noise

On the 5.4s, noises like that are usually from timing or roller followers. This isn't a 3-valve 5.4, so you won't have to deal with cam phasers. Pretty rare for rod knock on these, usually they just burn lots of oil and lose power as they get old.
