I too have moved up from a 94 Explorer to a 99 Expy. And tow a 3000lb popup. On the Explorer I had the 9000's with in-cab controls. They worked great. It was nice in the curvey mountain roads to be able pump them up for a stiffer ride and reduce roll. I will be doing the same for my Expy...- Wapiti

Would you trade for PSD Expedition?
I would trade in a heart beat. But I tow. Diesel prices have crept up, but out here, in line with gas. I'm not sure about VA but out here in CO there is no problem with availabilty. One would get much better fuel mileage, but it'll take a lot of miles to offset the probably 3 to 4k higher...- Wapiti

Will the 4.6 tow my 29' ft Airstream??

Hate to rain on your parade but IMHO the 4.6 and a tow rating of 5000 will not tow a 7 to 8k trailer. You may be able to do it, but your over the limit for what the vehicle is designed for to tow safely and efficiently. For starters, there are two rear diffs/axles available on the Expys.
