So I took both LCAs off of the wife's '03 2WD XLT yesterday to replace all four of the bushings. Found out that no rental / loaner ball joint / bushing press is big enough to reach around all the pieces and press them out. Took the arms and my new bushings to a local shop (highly recommended by my friends) and he told me that basically Ford doesn't design those bushings to be pressed out. He was going to have to burn out the rubber and hack them out with an air saw. What the actual hell?

How are you guys getting this task done?

Thanks!

Yeah when I had to replace my lower bushings I just replaced the whole lower arm. Came with new bushings and greaseable ball joint.

Ham: Dang, I was afraid you'd say that. I have two problems with that. 1.) Just on principle, if you have a part that you sell a replacement for, you should be able to install said part. Simple. 2.) On a 17 year-old car, I don't want to invest in the cost of dealership parts, and getting them online will probably take several days in today's situation. Therefore, I would probably have to put everything back together for the wife to use the car for a few days and do the entire job over again when the new parts arrived. That's what i call a Suck-Suck outcome.
