Have the metal noise problem in 2wd when accelerating and car is in motion. Won't happen if I put it in Drive with foot on brake. Stops as soon as acceleration stops. Have not tried a4wd. Afraid to drive it anymore as sound seems to be getting louder and worried if it is drive chain. TY

Try 4awd and see if it shuts up, the solenoid behind the battery starts to fail. The IWE front axle disconnects drag trying to engage. 4awd engages them all the time.

You can pick up a couple of solenoids on Amazon pretty cheap. Keep a spare in the glovebox. Common failure item.

Take the battery out. It's there on the firewall, hidden by the battery. I don't know what your skill level is, but it's easy for most people.
