Thats awesome that they are going to let u drive it until they are ready for it and they diagnosed the cdf drum quickly. Sounds like a good service dept. Good luck
Agreed, pretty luck i'd say. if I didn't leave mine, knowing it wouldn't even get looked at for 2 weeks, they would have given up my spot in line. UNREAL

I didn’t even ask, they wanted to do that. I just got the call today to bring it back Tuesday morning. 2-3 day turnaround time, and he mentioned a loaner.

Let’s hope the actual rebuild goes as smooth.

I’d bet Ford will not approve a full replacement - but will require a rebuild by the dealer.

Let us know what happens.
Dropped off today. They have 3 in front of mine. Asked for 2 days to test and verify. Since this will be second rebuild they are going to push for new. I am not holding my breath. Will keep you posted. Funny note last dealer didn’t show that they reflashed the trans at least 2 times. Current dealer thought that was odd not to show that work. They are not going to bother with that and go right rebuild or replace

Well .. 400 miles later (mostly pulling camper) no issues. It drives much better. That's the good news.

On another front - We got a flat on the way up to NY. My wife and changed it on the PA turnpike. Then when we got to our camp, there was a Goodyear Shop about an hour away. We dropped it off to get 4 new tires (that I needed anyway). We went with our friend in their car to Lake Placid. Got back, and went to Goodyear to pay and pickup the Expo.

The dealer left the car unlocked on their lot, and about $500.00 in tools and other items were stolen. They emptied the console and my toolbag in the back. Lost the camper pressure monitor, backup camera, flashlights, double drill set, ratchet set, ane a bunch of small tools and stuff I usee for the camper when needed.

Didn't think I had to empty, though I did thankfully remove my 700W portable generator. Lesson learned. I got into it with the dealer when he claimed that they check the locks every night. It was clearly not locked. Nothing that shows forced entry. I told him that perhaps it was an inside deal. He didn't like that.

The shop had no external security cameras. I know have a police report and an open case with Goodyear Corporate. Perhaps I'll get some $$ back.

Thus far, the transmission is smooth and much better to drive. A full rebuild.

Been riding around in a loaner 2023 platinum with paper plates. Had 250 miles on it. It is nice but miss my expy. Sticker on the 2023 is $99k lol. Probably not a bad idea, but frankly, I don't know what else I'd trust more. We're kinda at that point in automobile history where it's either buy something older and renovate it or play russian roulette whether it's gonna be transmission issues, "manufacturing debris left in the crankcase," "Oh, that's normal, they all do it," or "Well, that's why you get 3 years free maintenance." And we used to joke about boats being money pits...

Ford just authorized full factory crate replacement transmission for mine at 58k miles. Trans delivered to the dealership and their only heavy mechanic just quit, so now they have nobody to install it LOL!!! Can't even make this stuff up!!

Which would prompt me to tell the dealership "your personnel problems are not my concern".

Many car dealers are part of large dealership conglomerates or dealer networks. Suggest to your dealer that they dangle a bucket of money or a few paid days off in front of the "heavy mechanic" at one of their sister dealerships to come in for a day or two to get your transmission installed.

It's a sad state of affairs. You sound exactly like me and my brother. Both driving 6 yo vehicles that we like (love?), but would like to get something new. Everything seems to be either good or bad. So much electronic issues, engine issues, and the move to turbo 4 cyl, which I really don't want to do. The more I see, the more I think I might keep the "big girl", aka "the beast".

Update 2 - Sept 26th the 30 day mark and I was informed the Expy was ready. What finally happened. They took the original case for the trans and replaced every single part, seal, nut, bolt, gear, valve assembly and widget inside of the transmission, the list of parts from dealer is 3 and half pages long. The first rebuild was just the drum and few other small things (another dealer, 8k miles ago). They also replaced the oil cooling system as part of the tow package (don't tow) and fluid lines. The big replacement was also a new Master Controller unit. they could not get it to function properly so a new unit was installed. On a side note I also had new struts installed as I am at 52K and one was leaking. The new parted and full rebuilt trans is very smooth and shifts wonderfully. Ride is nice with the new struts, sits taller, covers better and handles rough roads nicely. The biggest change has been the MC, this has revived the expy. everything works like new, the drop running boards flawless, the milage is up, performance is better, engine is smoother, everything is different in a better way. I asked about this specifically and this is the main brain for it,. Replacing this overhauled the whole system for better. So new struts, oil, trans and brains, it is like a new expy. The Dealer - Fullerton Ford in CA, was great. They loaned me a brand new 2023 Platinum expy for the full 30 days. As as nice as the 100k expedition was, I missed mine. If have any specific questions, let me know. I wish this was the rebuild I got the first time. But dealer made it a better than average experience.

Wow! Great news. Congrats! I'm very happy for you. Too bad other dealers, and Ford, don't take a page from this dealers book. Now they (the dealer and Ford) have a happy, satisfied customer who might go back and buy something else and will probably have service done there. ARE YOU LISTENING FORD??????
