Ordered a replacement driver bottom seat upholstery and wanted to verify if the seat needs to come out, I'm guessing that it does but wanted to check. Anything to look out for?
TIA

Yes, remove the seat. Sharp metal edges underneath. I would replace the foam everytime. I am retired but the fleet I took care of was almost entirely Ford. We had an extra driver’s seat ready all the time.

As stated above, you do need to remove the seat (just 4 bolts and one electrical connector). If you can get replacement foam, I would also suggest doing that.

Is the F150 foam the same? (What trim) I don't see the expedition listed. Edit: It looks like heated/cooled seats are special and extremely expensive.

I would ask the dealer. The heated seats may have better foam or more reinforcing. If your foam feels the same as the passenger side it might be fine. Our guys were in and out of the trucks many times each day. The edge of the foam would split and start to fall out through the steel frame.

My 08 expedition has heated/cooled seats and I could not find replacement foam, so used the old foam. It’s why I stated if you can replace the foam to do so. My foam is still in good condition, but I believe the heated/cooled seats have additional holes/ventilation in the foam and that is why we can’t find aftermarket items.

Al, the cooled seats have a soft plastic duct molded in them that goes through the foam. I can only speak for the 3rd Generation trucks, in which I've changed several seat covers. I've always removed the seat. It's not hard and offers access to remove any side trim. Watch the video on The Seat Shop website. It's a great video showing all the steps. Then you can decide if you want to try it without removing the seat.

By removing it and bringing it into the shop/dining room/bedroom you can roll around on the floor with it and work much more easily.

If their's no video for the 4th Gen, look at the one for an F-150 or a 3rd Gen Expedition and you'll get pretty much the same thing.
