I like the 22’s on the ranch after having the 22’s on my 2019 Platinum. But kinda dig the Tremor. The 2025 Platinum looks crazy plain jane even compared to my 2019. Ford is definitely playing games with packaging and pricing. In 2019 the limiteds flew off the lots sticker price was more...
Late 2019 aluminum oil pan. Heavy tow 75,000. No issues other than the rear defrost tangs popping off the glass first week. Its been a great rig so far. Definitely has late 19 parts changes over 18’s and earlier 19’s. Which does make a difference. Still has the plastic timing guides tho. If the...
Umm battery is dead. Even before it gets that low you should see issues. Weird shifting, sun roof won’t open, running boards don’t work etc.
Get a new battery.
Find s performance shop that specializes in the 3.5. There are multiple things the good shops do to basically bulletproof the 3.5.
The most current phasers are apparently key to fixing but part numbers need to be checked lots of old faulty phasers still getting sold to unwary people. Replace...
I have a 19 Standard Platinum heavy tow. Absolutely must have is the 2nd row bench. Not having it would have severely impacted its utility in both hauling people and Gear. I haul HS tennis team kids, scout troop kids, family, dogs, gear! Etc. The 2nd row captains chairs basically would render...
Have a Ford toyota Fusion Energi it’s been awesome. 15yr old is getting it soon. Wife is getting plugin/hybrid Lincoln next.
Our 19 Expedition 75,000 has been great. The 10spd gets a little gear confused occasionally maybe once every 6000 ish miles but otherwise ok. Started towing a heavy boat...
By the way regardless of brand you need to make sure the dealer logs your first transmission inspection and visit with its issues. All warranty issues seen before the warranty expires should be covered by the warranty. Meaning!!! Transmission clearly had issues at say 57,000 miles but dealer...
The fittings used on cooling lines related to the turbos have been a known problem. 2019’s got a updated connector but it sounds like the updated fittings were still a problem but not as bad. I read somewhere that there’s an even newer fitting design being used since the 2019 revision.
My...
The heavy tow pack isn’t a common option most are the basic configuration. I highly doubt they loaned out a rare heavy tow pack EXp. The payload spec fits the different packages to a T.
2019 Platinum on 22’s. Originally I was thinking switching to 20’s.
We do heavy Sierra Snow, hot summer highway trips, boat ramps 9000lb boat and Scouts trips logging road stuff. I put 22’s BFG Trail Terrains on a 3peak tire 55,000 miles ago totally transformed the truck. Now on my second set...
Tire type matters! I used a buddies F250 on the E rated heavy load tires and they sucked regarding ramp traction in addition to the pickup bed weight challenge.
I have a standard heavy tow Expedition on 3peak BFG Trail Terrains that are like velcro on the boat ramp.
Get quality 3peak rated...
9ft 9in wide permit haul 34ft ball to prop I used the strap on extension mirrors and hated them. I only use them for appearance purposes. The stock mirrors allow me to see enough that I have no interest in fooling with trying to find something else
Your number 1 issue is cooling and gearing which is a definite issue even at 9000lbs with heavy tow pack gearing and cooling I have to watch my temps.
So unless your boat is a mexican panga its way too much for the basic format Expedition
This boat is 28ft on an Aluminum Karavan Trailer 1800lbs boat empty tanks with trailer is right around 9000lbs. The Expedition is heavy tow pack which includes the HD 3.73 gear set in addition to additional cooling capacity. 700 mile tow Seattle to Ca I would not recommend towing over 6000lbs...
The snow mode is way way more advanced than manually trying to address gearing especially on slick roads. ABS and the stability systems are pretty amazing but transmissions are still pretty dumb. Its easy to cause a uncontrolled skid via shifting a transmission manually. Especially in a Long 2wd...
Depends on the tire! These had 47000 miles on them when we hauled this beast 750 miles over three western passes in stupid july 100 degree weather. Last couple of winters they handled epic Sierra snow just fine. Best part people assume its a mall crawler when its probably doing more truck stuff...
Same but found my self just using the stock mirrors 99.9% of the time. 9.9 wide at about 9ft off the pavement. Empty tanks right at 8800lbs with trailer weight included. Not a dry yard boat. She gets hauled between winter water playground and summer water playground. Power hasn’t been an issue...
I have the same as Left Coast Geek. Ultimately I made the stock mirrors work but they weren’t ideal. I pull oversized permits due to width 9ft 9.
But mirror height width is around 8ft 11.
If your legal 8.5 I honestly don’t see much advantage to going farther out.
What am I dragging? 29ft L...
Keep in mind if your in snow/ice country the stock tires vs wheel well clearances seem to get really tight with packed in snow and ice. I honestly don’t know if I could bump up to 60’s without having big issues with the snow packing and ice in the winter.
Just something to keep in mind
The amount of snow and ice buildup in the wheel wells has been interesting at times with stock setup. I’m guessing no ice or snow in your region? Not sure I could go bigger without serious winter issues.
Definitely go warranty route
Find a different ford dealer but doing it your self when its under warranty is nuts. Can’t think if any reason someone would do that unless they modified electrical and are worried they did something.
I probably would have bought a Tremor in 2019 instead of the Platinum heavy tow I ended up with. But living with the Platinum stock 22’s with the BFG Trail Terrain tires I love this thing. Drives up to our cabin on the 2lane highway excellent handling. Fantastic mileage, comfortable etc. Drags...
