From research I've done, as I was leaning towards Raptor wheels initially, you'll have to trim the ends off of your CV/spindle shafts on the rear. Doesn't take much, and a 4-1/2" grinder with a 5" cutting wheel would make quick work of it. The tires would likely rub on at least the front valance...
Thanks guys. It rides like a truck now, with the 10-ply tires. I was kind of getting used to the soft ride of the stock configuration, since my work truck is that F-350 in the background and my DD pickup is a Tundra with 10-plies. Oh well, it's what I'm used to.
I've had my '09 XLT for about 2 weeks now, and I've been spending a lot of time with it. I've put approximately 1500 miles on it, and have done some mild customizing to stand out from the exact same truck down the street. I've had the windows tinted, installed a 3/2 ReadyLift, and had some 17"...
I bought my '09 for a back-up/hunting/gun range vehicle BECAUSE of the 5.4L. I've had several high mileage Tritons over the years and hadn't had any issues. With that kind of mileage on the one you're looking at, OP, you couldn't hardly go wrong and should be able to put many trouble-free miles...
I got my ReadyLift 3/2 on. I'll post pics when I get rims and tires, it looks like garbage with the stock XLT rims and bald 265s. Like a little kid at Christmas, I tore into the box and threw the lift in without taking measurements of the stock configuration. Eyeballing it looks like the amount...
Something I noticed was when looking at Expys in the Midwest recently, rocker panel rust seemed to be rampant on these. I looked at 5 before I settled on one and 4 had rust varying from paint bubbles to ragged holes to rockers being completely gone on an otherwise clean one-owner with 110k miles.
I just found a great deal on a ReadyLift kit on fleabay for $240 for the 3/2 kit. I looked at the $99 kit, but some of the negative reviews scared me off. Some mentioned cheap metal and bad welds, so I shied away from them because my Expy will regularly be transporting my family with two little...
Bit the bullet today and picked up a pretty nice one-owner 2009 XLT 4x4 with 118k miles. Was able to negotiate it down to leave me some cash in the budget that my wife approved to get some tires and wheels and a leveling kit in the very near future.
Hello all,
I am currently in the market for a used Expy. Shooting for a 2007-2010 with 100-150k miles, 4x4 in the standard or EL wheelbase. It'll mainly be a hunting/gun range rig but I want it nice enough to double as a family trip vehicle. My wife drives a '14 Tundra CrewMax and I have a '14...
