illuminated entry with remote start module

Looking for some info on how I can make my illuminated entry (running boards and interior) lights come on when unlocking with my remote starters key fob. Unlock is setup for driver priority with a 2nd press being setup for unlock all. Unfortunately when unlocking it in this manner, the...

    Help with "Brown Wire Mod"

Got this completed today. Ended up drilling my own hole just below the windshield near the drive side A pillar. Dropped the 2 wires through and connected to a switch on the steering column trim panel below the instrument cluster. Switch off and truck is in "2wd" without the ability to choose...

    Help with "Brown Wire Mod"

Agree that the fuse is the clearest way to do this and know that it's working. Unfortunately I'm not the type that can just drape wires through the door jamb and over the weather stripping. I'm looking around now for an easy and clean passage into the cabin with my wires though and not having...

    Help with "Brown Wire Mod"

I'm going to give this a shot myself. I pulled the fuse to test the "2wd" mode and it worked great but of course I can't select 4HI/LO when needed. It would actually be easier to tap the wire in the cabin if you can find it rather than have to to run 2 new lines cleanly through the firewall...

Which programmer? - SCT v. Superchips v. Hypertech v. whatever!

Me neither. I was not going to do an intake on this vehicle but I may now. As far as the intake leaning out, in closed loop, any leaning out will be countered by the long and short term fuel trims to keep it running at or around 14.64. On other vehicles, the computer will use the last range...

    Increase mpg?

18 is already really good.. I can touch 17 with pure highway driving but barely see 11-12 with city driving, especially with warming it up in the winter. I don't think you're going to get your monies worth (or 2mpg) out of the exhaust if you're doing it for mpg gains.

    which plugs?!!

I just did this an opted for the SP-479s as that was the recommended plug. Others mentioned this vehicle being fussy with plugs and I didn't want to do this job twice. Got them from rockauto.com for $2.58ea. Amazon also has them for around $3.76ea.

    1997 Eddie Bauer 5.4l

I did the same thing and had the same problem. I only got a code once indicating the cylinder that was bad. I replaced just that one cop at first and still had a misfire (less severe) but no further codes. I installed all new plugs/cops and problem solved. Pretty sure in my case the front 2 on...

    idle surge in drive only

I did not replace it. I pulled it out, cleaned with b12 chemtool spray and went to put it back on with a new gasket. While installing, the gasket slipped down and could not be found so the original gasket had to be reused. So this could all be relative to a leak there I guess, or maybe I screwed...

    idle surge in drive only

Started noticing this issue after a bunch of work, so not sure if it is related or just something else that popped up. Car idles fine in Park. When in drive and stopped with foot on brake, I'm getting a bit of a rough idle and barely noticeable surging. The rpms aren't surging so much, it's...

    99 5.4 rebuild

Sorry, I cropped out the top which mentioned the oil was Motorcraft 5w20 and almost 3k mile interval. Prior to doing the oil change, I pulled the throttle body, egr and iac and sprayed the intake clean with b12. Started it up, drove around a few mins and then dumped the oil, which is why I...

    New shocks?

My buddy with a shop/lift installed these for me. It took him maybe 15 mins to do both the rears and maybe 20-30 for the fronts so I'm glad I let him do it rather than wrestling with it my driveway for a whole day. Initial impression is that I don't squat so much on take off or nose dive as...

    99 5.4 rebuild

Thanks again. I see that is listed as for the 4.6 2v but I don't see a separate listing for the 5.4 2v. They are exactly the same? Any thoughts on whether or not some 99 expeditions may not have had the PI heads or how I can tell for sure?

    99 5.4 rebuild

Thanks for the input. At this point, I'm planning on stock exhaust manifolds and using whatever the best gasket kit available is. The engine isn't coming out unless it's mandatory.. A mechanic friend is going to help with this and he wants to just replace the gaskets, heads, and exhaust...

    heater

I am having similar issues. It was also taking a long time to heat up on cold starts. I changed the fan clutch and that seems to have solved some issues. I just did the tstat as well but haven't had much chance to see how the heat is yet.

Yet ANOTHER Spark Plug thread . . .

I just ordered a set of plugs for my 99 5.4. I've read a lot about people having issues with various plugs and decided to stick with motorcraft. I went with the SP-479 from Rockauto for about 2.50 ea. I didn't want to have to do this job twice so hopefully these will last a while and be trouble...

    New shocks?

I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about this and was hoping to have them here for the weekend so I just chose the Bilstein. I know it's a quality product and for $30 more it seemed like the right choice.

    New shocks?

Okay so I gather no one shock is going to significantly increase ride quality over another and that any shock I get should be a large improvement over what I think are original shocks (130k) miles. So I'm just going to purchase a high quality shock. I've narrowed it down to the Bilsteins or KYB...

    New shocks?

Thanks for the input. I know it will never ride like a high end SUV but I want to move closer to the direction rather than further. With Bilsteins am I going to get a harsher ride as they're more tuned for handling? Bilsteins came stock on my car and I like them for that application but not...

    New shocks?

99 Expedition, 130k miles 5.4 awd without air suspension. Honestly, when I bought this truck I was really looking for a range rover (99-02). It turns out all range rovers from that era are over priced and in rough shape and repairs costs are ridiculous for almost everything. One of the...
