    Agreed. Aesthetic and maybe psychological. Although with tailpipes exiting to each side, exhaust sound is projected to each side of the vehicle.

    My 99 4.6 developed a crank/no-start (sitting in the driveway, luckily - in two feet of snow, unluckily). Developed normal fuel pressure at rail at initial key-on. Crankshaft sensor was bad, computer would not keep the fuel pump running because it couldn't see any revolutions from engine.

    Quick update turn out the gem is going out

    The "wiper stalk" aka multifunction switch, was replaced 3 times on my 99 XLT 4x4, twice under warranty and the third time under recall to cure the "phantom wiper" condition where the wipers would make a pass when hitting bumps or even turning the steering wheel.

    On the 4-valve motors (Navis) the ticking is all those beautiful valves, cams and chains doing their thing. On the 2-valves, unfortunately, it usually means a broken stud at the exhaust manifold causing a small leak.
