I have an OEM driver's side mirror off a 2000 Expedition XLT. It is power and heated. It is all black (does not have chrome or painted cap).
The assembly is broken where it folds, but everything else on it is 100%.

If it is binding and then disconnects from the regulator, there must be an obstruction in its path. Take the door panel off and watch the regulator move up and down. Figure out what it is getting hung up on. Something probably got bent out of shape. It could be the regulator or the door lock...
