theres no reason to cut the sides at all. Trim the top and trim the bottom and with the dash kit it slides right in.
Heres my last deck, the only reason this looks off center is cause I took the photo off center. But absolutely not side cutting, it centers itself. Mines a '99
1 Open the rear cargo door and pry off the cargo door header trim with a panel tool. This is a rectangular plastic panel at the back edge of the ceiling.
2 Pry off the scuff plate at the back edge of the cargo area with a panel tool.

With the Expedition EL LTD you have I doubt size is an issue. That does give you alot of options for what you want to replace the stock on with adn hide behind the massive panels out back.
