so, new here... loving my expy, but the previous idiot... erm.. owner... did some questionable things with the stock wiring... one of those being taking it upon him/herself to remove the stock sub amplifier, cut the plugs to it, and run speaker wire from the headunit, tapped into one of the channels... alll the way back along the trim, and wire it into the stock, blown sub.... you can imagine my frustration.
so, i picked up a new 8" polk sub off cl (traded my old alpine 10 for it), an old cheapie walmart amp i had laying around, and some wiring pieces/parts.
total investment today: $0 and about 4-5 hours
so without further adieu.... i give you pictures!!
off comes all the trim!!!!! my wife thought i was insane when i was tossing little plastic bits everywhere... also disregard the wiring hanging out of there, i had to add a little to the stock harness after the ****** cut the plugs down, and left the power wire just hanging out there... blew my #1 dash fuse yesterday after it touched the chassis...

out comes the stock box!!!! notice the lack of amplifier... idiot removed that too... :/

out comes the stock sub.... i dont think its kosher to be able to see daylight through it... that thing was TOAST!!!!!

got the new sub and cheapie amp mounted, getting the sub in there was a PITA... had to cut out the dimple in the back, since the sub was taller than stock, sealed it up with some good epoxy and a piece of aluminum plate, double secured with screws on all four corners... its ugly, but who is looking at the back of my stock sub box?? (amp was all i had on hand, sounds ok, but the sub is a 160rms i think.. this amp is only like 100w peak, 50-60rms...)
on the bright side, it doesnt have the power demand that requires me to run all new wiring....

and the finished product bolted up to the stock location, wiring run and retaped... looking GOOD!

and with the trim back on.... i mounted the amp so that the volume/freq control knobs were accessible through the stock panel. almost looks factory!

all in all, its a big improvement over no bass at all, but the amp definitely needs to go bye bye... going to be keeping my eye out for an old school RF punch amp, or a small kicker to stuff in there....
