The issue with running 4WD "just in case" is that if the wheels cannot slip, you risk doing damage to the differential / transfer case. In your example, had you turned the corner in 4WD, and there had not been ice, you may have some binding occur, and thus damage.
Last week we had some ice...
Yeah - I love my Expy. Looking at what to do next - tuner, exhaust, something... the woofer is blown, maybe fix that... who knows.
I did get to drive it in Snowpocolypse Atlanta last week and it was a champ!!!
Maybe a good front bumper and winch...
Any ideas?
I went ahead and bit the bullet - had the plugs changed... not that the truck was running badly, but it had 85K on it and figured it was time. Also had the boots changed, as some had some "discoloration" on them... was not sure if it needed to be done, but they were there and I do trust the...
ABS Light Off :)
Fixed... :banana-mario:
Replaced the Rear Speed Sensor ($15.00 at O'Reillys)... 3/8" socket... 4 (maybe 5) minutes...
Took me longer to find my darn 3/8 socket... :)
Why it would take the dealer 1.5 hours and why their part is $40...
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Update - after reading previous post, talking with guy at O'Reillys... the codes are most likely P1169, C1229, and C1230... the guy at Kauffman's only had the numbers, so I assumed. However, he did say he had to "go through the ABS to get the codes..." so perhaps all three are "C" codes...
Toyo Open Country AT II. They ride pretty nice - but have not had them on the road much yet. Will give a review once I have used them for a bit.
Hammer

My ABS light came on yesterday while in traffic. It was quite weird, dry pavement, not going very fast (15 mph or so, maybe less) and I started to break (some yahoo cut me off). I felt the brake pedal shudder (ABS engaging), came to a complete stop. As soon as I started moving...
I bought my 99 Expy used, and the tires looked brand new (all slicked up, etc.) and had almost 85% tread remaining on a set of Micheline MTX L/S tires (darn things are $230+ EACH)... I was ecstatic.
NOW: I started noticing the rubber looked old, which I attributed the pollen, etc. around...
Sounds like I need to get a tuner finally... Let that search begin. Perhaps I can do that as part of a total tune-up (plugs, COPs, and tuner)... still considering total exhaust makeover (headers, exhaust, etc.)... but I digress into dreamland. :)
Back on topic: I will see how the drivability...
Got your attention :)
I read a post the other day where Thermo stated that the "sweet spot" in the power band for the Expy is around 2000 rpms. During my commute, I have the occasion to be "cruising" at around 45 mph (about 1400 rpms in OD). Any time I have to accelerate, it is not quick...
