this is all it says for my VIN:
Trans Order Code 44E
Trans Type 4 4.0 min 4.0 max
Trans Description Cont. Automatic w/OD
that's it. i looked that up long ago. then I looked up "44E". still got nothing.
so here's what I learned: the stock tunes are ONLY the three octane settings. There are not "performance, tow, or economy" tunes available from the SCT Livewire. those are custom tunes you buy from a programmer.
the device does NOT come with ten tunes. It will hold ten custom tunes if you buy...
i wish I had kept a great article I'd once found on this. it turns out the relevant metric is the volume of air the engine needs to fill on every intake stroke. As long as there's at least that much available, with some constraints on pressure, then there is no "restriction" on the intake side.
I've only had mine for just short of 2 years, from 96k miles to 106k miles. i use it as a DD. the tranny in my 2nd gen police package never goes over 200, but then I've never towed, either. my first goto for any tranny issue is always a fluid change. FWIW.
depending on costs; I'd do it just for the paddle shifters. I think they're the best thing since sliced bread. I don't even have to be racing to like them. duh.
I'm in the same boat you're in. I've been able to fit 33.8" tires on the stock suspension, which alone provided 1.1" of lift over factory ground clearance.
I'm holding off on suspension work until it's time to buy new tires again. I've got a tuner, which was less than a value add, and I'm...
update - the front suspension has been repaired with HD moog components, the wiring and vacuum issues are resolved, the larger tires are installed (33.8") Nittos, the brakes are fixed, I got the tuner (reviews posted elsewhere; generally a waste of money so far in large part of because of awful...
I've had Michelins and Goodyear Wranglers almost exclusively my whole life. love 'em. the kevlar Wranglers were incredible rock crawlers in the Texas hill country; and the Micheline rain tires were great on our highway battlewagon Mercury Gran Marquis.
I did have firestones a couple of times, by...
I have to agree with Expedition Dave: "reliability means ... never left me stranded." I got my first car in the mid '70's- a 1963 corvair. then i got a buick with an aluminum block V8. then i had chevys- a police sedan, a pickup truck, a vega.... don't ask. and so on.
some observations: an...
Marvel Mystery Oil is one of many marketing scams that at best, do no harm. For example, "The lubricant was used as a fuel additive in a Lycoming aircraft engine which was specifically cautioned against oil additives (Service Instruction No. 1014M, which also stated its use would void the...
my 2004 is an SSV; it has no such control. If I want it to idle, I leave it running and walk away, or just sit back and read a book. As far as i can tell it will idle forever; probably because it has super duper heavy duty extra cooling radiator and tornado fan installed as part of the police...
FWIW... My 2004 XLT has a control next to the lights on the dash that will turn down brightness for all interior lights, and then just turn them off. This is an SSV, but I've had that same control in all my cars. I've liked to use it because it ensures I won't have some errant light bulb left...
sorry to be so dense - the older I get the more i need crayons.
so, 5 star wrote a tune that SCT flashed onto your livewire tuner? really stupid question - I thought the tunes were something we loaded onto our devices without vendor assistance? using the vendor software, like the SCT Updater...
