Also anyone know if the BW4416 transfer case is locked when in 4L/4H? Or have any technical documents for it? I've been going crazy trying to find any info about it online, and the service/shop manual doesn't have tons about how it works. I have the exploded view of it, but honestly no idea how...
Once they were all welded up, I went over them again with the flap disk sander, touched up any welds that needed it, and grinded it a bit more to clean it up.
Then wiped it down with acetone
Decided to go with bedliner spray. Projectfarm on youtube has a pretty good video about the best...
Alrighty guys and gals, this has been a LOOONG time coming. But I finally got the rock sliders on! Been working a new job where I travel a lot, but also still working my old job so I've been working 7 days a week for the past 6 months or so. Gotta pay for all my home renovations and Expy mods...
Detroits would be great in the snow! Very predictable when it will unlock. It is 100% locked all the time, except for when one wheel is spinning faster than the other, like the outside wheel will in a turn. Kind of works like a ratcheting wrench. Shouldn't take any getting used to really, just...
Yeah my neighbor actually has power tanks on his jeep, they're pretty cool but I think Detroits are the way to go for me. My expy is purely for offroad fun, the only time it will be on the pavement is driving to the trails, or hauling stuff when I need it. So I really like the always locked...
Definitely, just saving up for them. Going with the Eaton Detroit lockers in the front and rear and am also going to put in 4.56 gears when I open up the diffs to put the lockers in. I think I made a post with the part numbers somewhere. Always try to avoid coming down on a wheel that's...
My local pick n pulls have em for under $50. Would check any scrap yards in your area, not sure about NJ but there doesn't seem to be a lack of totaled 2nd gens in California. There are over 20 that are currently in various pick n pulls within 50 miles of me
The line on the rear bumper is where I was thinking of trimming it similar to how I cut off the front bumper. But it would expose the tow package and not increase my departure angle due to the hitch. Just going to wait until I eventually get around to fabing up a custom rear bumper with a swing...
Small update: Took a cut off wheel to the front bumper to give me a little extra clearance. Also, ARB compressor has been purchased, along with a light bar and some ditch lights. Got a lot of renovations going on at the house at the moment, but will hopefully be installing the compressor and...
@Vincent Vega So the compressor I bought is the ARB ckma12 compressor. The OEM compressor and integrated mount is actually a fair amount larger than the arb. I could probably fit it under the windshield wiper fluid reservoir where the suspension compressor was, but it would be way more trouble...
Got the same code last weekend while doing a snow camping trip. Hoping the only reason it threw the code was because it was so cold outside and I had the heater on. 2004 EB. Anyone else ever have this happen?
Just in case anyone is following this thread or finding it sometime in the future, the stock compressor/fittings aren't meant to run more than about 50 psi. It won't work like a typical compressor that you would be able to run air tools/fill a 35in tire. I ended up buying an arb on board air...
@Vincent Vega oh nice how's the new timing chain coming along? I'm going to need to do that in the next 50k miles probably but have never done a timing job so I'm a little iffy on it.
Lol there is quite a bit of stuff on our trucks that is not placed in a great spot for offroading. My plan for...
Yeah I'm actually in the process of making my own. Gas tank skid is first and foremost, then going to work on a front bumper/skid combo. I've got access to a cnc plasma cutter and I've got my own shop to do the rest of the fabrication. I'm in the middle of a few different home renovation...
Nope we're pretty much on our own lol. I would recommend the Rancho quick lift struts though if you're looking to ditch the air suspension. Recently did some lawn relandscaping and hauled over 8000lbs of sod in a dump trailer and the suspension worked great. Turned it to a slightly softer...
I would be very surprised if they didn't fit on the navigators. The strutmasters and Dorman have the same part numbers for the expy/Navi struts/springs. And a lot them on Rock auto as well.
@Vincent Vega But to answer your actual question lol the expy was designed to tow a shit load, so the CVs can handle really high static loads, it's much more likely to snap under a sudden dynamic load. The lockers would keep a more constant force, and you'd really need to gun it when youre...
@Vincent Vega for sure, that is an easy way to snap the cv. Just gotta be careful when one wheel gets off the ground, and you do NOT want to come back down when the wheel is spinning. When I'm offroading and in that situation, I put one foot on the gas, and one on the brake. I keep the gas pedal...
Unfortunately they don't fit, the frame mounts are in slightly different locations. I guess I could cut and move the mounts, but the less messing about I have to do with the frame, the better. The guys I work with when I'm doing metal fabrication know how to make some custom ones though! Granted...
I saw that, thank you! His videos were super helpful for sure, but I'm looking at the detroit lockers. The lack of good aftermarket stuff definitely is frustrating, at this point I'm just working on my fabrication skills because it looks like if I ever want beefier upper control arms, or...
Its been a little while since I've been able to work on my rig, so I've just been doing research on what parts to buy next. Unfortunately we've been having record setting rains in NorCal lately and my shop/hangar is leaking like a sieve, so I've been dealing with that (and spending plenty of...
Tank came, also had to buy a 3/16 push to connect fitting for it.
Decided to test it out, have a bunch of random fittings around my shop and a few spare pressure gauges, managed to make this:
Its got a little valve there I can close to take off the gauge, then open again to empty the tank...
