Heated Steering Wheel - Installation on my 2017

Following along closely, thanks again for this! As Fall arrives I will start planning to do this on my '17 soon. . . :D

    Purchasing a used 2017 EL - Rentals

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to do any customizing yet. Hoping eventually to add power-fold mirrors, heated steering wheel, and 360 (surround view) camera. I do already have a rain sensor installed but I still need to replace a couple more components and run some new wiring to activate...

Poor shifting - 2018 Expedition 4x4 Max Platinum

When the TCC locks up under load going up a steep hill, the engine RPM drops and it almost feels like it's heading toward a stall. This is what I mean by "lugging" though I'm by no means an expert in engine/performance terminology so hopefully I'm using the right term. The engine does seem OK if...

Poor shifting - 2018 Expedition 4x4 Max Platinum

I can report almost the exact same experience as you on our 2018 "Shorty" Platinum. The transmission feels awkward and a bit "clunky" in the way it shifts. It goes into too high a gear too quickly even while under load. Also, it's very noticeable when the torque convertor clutch locks up, and it...

Real world experience in urban environment (e.g. parking)

We have a '17 EL and an '18 "Shorty." Whenever parking might be a challenge, I prefer to drive the '18. Say whatever you want, I don't care, but I will not even attempt to parallel park my EL (and I have yet to try the Park Assist on the '18). I always choose a spot based on how easy I can get...

Ordering 2019 max - question about ceramic interior on platinum trim?

We have not one but *two* white Expeditions -- one with Ebony and one with Ceramic. Ebony is easier to keep clean, but it's a lot hotter in Summer as it contributes to solar heat gain inside the truck. We love our Ceramic interior. But, watch out when wearing jeans as there can be some color...

    CCD makes ride more comfortable?

CCD shocks are about $700 per corner to replace right now. No idea yet how long they last. The CCD setup makes a HUGE difference in ride smoothness. Coming from a Lincoln Town Car, I was hesitant to get into a truck at all but I chose the Expedition for its ride quality. The CCD option makes...

    Transmission gear indicator went missing

I thought the same thing -- pressing "-" once to activate that mode and then pressing it again to lock out 6th -- but, in practice, when I press "-" twice like that it locks out both 5th and 6th!

    Grill compatibility

Point taken but I was talking about factory OEM parts and upgrades, not anything from the aftermarket. . .

    Grill compatibility

Sorry, I have to disagree. Ford probably prefers that we don't customize anything. The tight integration of electronics and other systems is evidence to support this assertion. If you're missing an option, for example, good luck getting help from Ford to make that change to your vehicle. The...

    Grill compatibility

I didn't say you couldn't swap parts. What I said was they often try to make it difficult rather than easy. . .

    Grill compatibility

When manufacturers like Ford do a "restyle" like this, for some reason they often make sure the newer, more updated parts can't easily be installed on older vehicles. They always seem to change just enough to make it extremely difficult or impractical to upgrade an older vehicle. In this case...

    Transmission gear indicator went missing

Mine did the same thing to me. I had my gears displaying for months, then one day they were turned off. The "+" button on the shifter should bring them back. If you press "-" you'll lock out 6th gear.

    Floor Mats & Carpet

One thing I just discovered is Ford made a change to how the driver's front mat secures to the carpet for 2015. Thus, that one mat no longer fits from the set I had for my old '2009 EL and I now have to buy new Weathertech front mats for my 2017.

Front parking sensors on XLT - available from factory? Can be added later?

It's all about wiring. The fancy options require more modules and more wires, thus need different wire harnesses. One way Ford saves money is by minimizing the number of different wire harness combinations they make and install. The XLT 202A package, like on '15-'17s, is "pre-wired" for many...

    xlt wheels on platinum

I can't guarantee you 100%, and I doubt Ford would provide a firm answer either, but we went through the same thought process. As long as the overall tire diameter is the same, it won't affect your speedometer or require re-calibration. Expeditions come from the factory with 18-inch, 20-inch...

    Expedition Limited vs Platinum

Noise cancellation is Platinum only and then only in the front row. There's a noticeable difference riding in the front seats between Platinum and Limited. There's also a noticeable difference between the front seats and the 2nd row on the Platinum. It's a good bit noisier when sitting in the...

    Headlight weirdness

We have an '18 Platinum and live in the mountains. Headlights are great and we have no complaints. With fog lights on, visibility is excellent IMO.

What to look for when buying a gen3 expy

The fans on the Ecoboost can be alarmingly loud at times. I discovered this when driving my new (to me) '17 on a hot Summer day for the first time.

    Bench for buckets??

Might want to plug it anyway just in case. It's possible they made a change to the floor in 2015. Then again, it's also possible it's the same as before. In that case, vermin and exhaust fumes can get in through that hole.

Will 16” wheels clear 15-17 Brakes??

The smallest wheel size from the factory on these trucks (at least '07-'17) was 17-inch.

    Bench for buckets??

You may find that it does. I learned this the hard way on my 2009 when mice got in through that hole. Looking at it from above, you can't tell it doesn't go all the way through. I checked it out using a flashlight at night. From just the right angle, I could see the driveway under the truck...

    Bench for buckets??

Interesting! Is this a '15-'17 model? The floor looks slightly different than the older '07-'14 models. For example, I don't see the "extra" hole underneath the middle seat that causes problems when the seat is removed.

In the market for a 15 expy - need advice

The only safety feature I can think of that might be missing is BLIS. That is optional even on Limited models but it's standard on Platinum. (It's also available on XLT even though I've never seen one that had it.) Other than that, safety should be the same as far as I know. Same airbags...
