So from the help of a few people in this forum I was able to successfully update my Sync 3 from v1.0 to v2.2 and swap out the hub and get Apple CarPlay to work.
Here is a video of the simple hub upgrade:
If you need the Sync upgrade files let me know and we can get those to you.
I was thinking about this as well. Hardest part is getting the AppleTV to connect to some kind of Wifi connection. Would you do Personal Hotspot from an iPhone or something? And data would get sucked up quickly doing that. And if you want to do AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad you still need a...
So I just got a 2016 Expedition with Sync 3 system.
We had a 2003 Expedition EB that had the factory DVD system which around 2009 I gutted it and replaced it with a new overhead DVD player/monitor and replaced the factory headunit with a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS. I had the audio shop wire up the...
You're probably not going to find many that are not touch screens but you will find ones that don't have Navigation. I went with a Pioneer setup which didn't have Nav but it did have the ability to play DVD's so we put a new screen in the back and had the DVD from up-front send the feed to the...
I'm a server tech as well and love cars as well. how funny. I do IT work for a company and have several clients including a fairly large church and private school. Fun stuff.
Thanks for the tips. I'm so appreciative of forums like this because without them in the 90's it was very hard to work on cars. Now I feel like there isn't things I can't do. And YouTube helps too. I think I might actually do a video of my hub installation since there are 1000's of people who...
Ok I got new flash drive today and wallla it worked. I can't believe a stupid flash drive would have caused me so many issues. I just ordered the USB with Carplay chip as well. So excited. https://www.tascaparts.com/oe-ford/hc3z19a387b
Ok well I ordered some new 2.0 USB flash drives from Amazon this morning same day delivery!! Should be there when I get home.
This is what I ordered: http://a.co/8AJ2oAX
I actually did reformat my flash drive and did ExFat this time since the readme doc said FAT32 or ExFat. So now I've tried both ways. Only thing I haven't tried is a different flash drive. I ordered some new ones from Amazon and should be here today.
Hmmmm but he's telling me that my 3.0 USB flash drive is probably causing the problem and to downgrade to a 2.0 USB version flash drive. I do know what you're talking about because if you own a GoPro or other type of cameras (drone's with buit-in cameras, etc) then we always have these issues.
I did find this post and wondering if maybe I can modify the files to make it install less and just do 3 stages. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/current-sync-3-carplay-android-auto-information-360660/index171/#post5135735
Yeah my update1 fails and says I don't have enough space or something, even after doing a master reset. Weird. And you have a 2016 Exp Limited? Do you know the date of manufacture? Mine is sept 2015.
No Luck. STILL FAILED. Uggg... Not sure what to do now. Guess I'm doomed and the only reason I bought this car was to have this feature otherwise I would of got a 2017.
