sounds like you've got a bad roller follower to me. I personally would not ignore it, if it spits out the follower you could drop a valve and that would mean new engine time. Watch some of FordTechMakuloco videos on YouTube, he is the most prolific 5.4 fixer on YouTube (edit: I see you have...
I was not talking about ram air setups, just along the lines of what to put on top of a 1050 CFM Holley Dominator carb if you're headed to the strip. A K&N is the correct answer for that application.
There's a difference between a cold air intake and a ram air intake. The latter refers to...
K&Ns are great rock catchers for dragstrip cars...they have low resistance to flow at high CFM, which if you've got a rip snorting big block at the drags, is what you want.
Not so great for street cars though.
I'd rather have the Ecoboost, personally, if I was going newer. I drove a 2015 prior to buying my 2010 and it was a lot stronger, but the price was not where I needed it to be.
Nobody can say the Ecoboost has a lot of problems who came from a 5.4 3v.
I test drove 20+ GM large SUVs before turning my attention to Ford. I didn't want the cam phaser issues either, but I found that I absolutely COULD NOT DEAL with the horrible interior quality of the GMs of the same vintage. Only 1 out of those 20+ did not have a dash that was cracked in...
Wow. I towed a pallet of bricks with my 2010 Navigator and while I'm not sure how much that weighed, it felt way underpowered. I had to give it 3/4 throttle to get up a small hill at 55. The brakes were inadequate also, to the point of, I would not tow with it again without a brake upgrade...
The coil bolt torque spec on the 5.4 is in inch-points, not foot-pounds. I don't have an Ecoboost but I can't imagine it being different enough that it requires 63 foot pounds, I've seen many pics.
I think you need a reality check. I'm not trying to be rude, I would like to help you in any way that I can through a web forum. Many owners have faced these problems before you and it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to resolve this issue without opening up the engine, especially once it...
The lower front one is a pain in the (expletive) ****. I regret doing this job with my Navigator. It was worse than reparing the transmission bulkhead plastic sleeve (where the PCM plugs into the transmission) and that took 5+ on my back on the garage floor, along with a run to the Ford dealer...
The Ecoboosts come with their own set of problems, it's a highly complex engine. However, the power is night and day different - tons more torque with the Ecoboost. The 5.4 feels sluggish in comparison.
I drove a 2015 Navigator with high mileage that was in my price range, I had to be careful...
Well it does look to be in pretty exceptional condition, at least looking at it from the outside. But browsing used cars online, the highest I saw for a 2009 was $13,900 for a non-EL with 108K miles. Since yours is an EL it's worth more and the King Ranch of course helps, but the mileage is...
Way easier to release the serpentine belt on the 5.4 than on most transverse mounted engines on front wheel drive cars. It took me less than 10 minutes to change my serpentine belt, and in the case of an alternator replacement, you wouldn't even need to remove the belt, just take it off the...
Suspect the phasers or solenoids, or both. You're most likely going to have to open the engine to resolve it. If you end up doing a timing job, replace the oil pump with a Melling high volume pump while you're at it.
It is drive by wire, not cable actuated. A cable actuated one is fully mechanical with the exception of a throttle position sensor, and would be less likely to fail, but could still have the throttle opening gummed up to the point of having drivability issues.
The drive by wire ones, there is...
The needle bearings in the roller followers fail and if not addressed, lead to further carnage. It's critically important on these engines (5.4 3V) to monitor for any noises that may be out of the ordinary.
It looks like your dropped valve was a result of the follower failing. The follower...
My brake booster is definitely less effective when I first pull out of the driveway if I don't let it run 10-15 seconds before putting it in gear. The pedal goes hard and has very limited effectiveness. If I let it run a bit before putting it in gear, it's fine.
When I do have the problem, it...
Jasper pretty much has a terrible reputation, if you do decide the engine replacement route, I would not choose them. Ford reman or Powertrain Products is recommended by the famous Ford YouTube mechanic.
I drove a 2016 Navigator last year with almost 200K on it. The interior and paint were pristine, but it had the rough startup issue, and threw a code before we even drove off the dealer lot. It was hard to take a pass because the interior was perfect, but in the end I passed on it.
Ouch, sorry to hear about that.
Just searching Google it seems like failures of the LPFP and HPFP are fairly common on the Ecoboosts, and not just the 3.5s, tons of hits on people complaining about the 2.0 EB as well. With the quantity of fuel you are using pulling a trailer, I wouldn't...
