Today the driver’s side of the third row in our 2019 platinum expedition refused to fold. It clicks but will not fold or adjust. The passenger side still works like normal.
How can I manually fold these down? Is there a way to do it without taking the seats out entirely?
You’re giving me hope.
How long and heavy is your toy hauler?
I’m doing everything I can to keep ours until 300,000 but we regularly take cross-continent trips with our 7,000lb trailer and I’m wondering how much that might affect its life.
It’s a 2019 max platinum and no issues so far but...
I hate this also, especially because it’s intermittent. It seems most common when I had CarPlay playing audio, turned off the car, then unplugged my phone. If I turn off the audio while the car is still on, it’s far less likely to happen
We just changed our Summer set from the stock Hankooks to a set of Kumho Crugen HT51s and they're a massive improvement. Both quieter and more comfortable. They were $700 cheaper than Michelin Defender's and came more highly recommended from my shop.
I tow an 8,000# travel trailer in heat like that and through the mountains and my transmission almost never gets above 220F unless it’s revving high with the engine brakes on a descent or chugging up a lengthy climb. Your temp is starting to sound concerning. I’m only at 65,000 miles on a 2019...
The tips in this blog post may help you as well. These guys are North America’s towing experts. Ford once sent engineers to their shop to see how they were reinforcing hitches, which is why Ford now has the best hitch receivers anywhere...
I’ve had all these issues too. Once my warranty expires and they fix the outstanding issues, I’ll never go back. Last month I destroyed my filter wrench trying to get theirs off after the cam phase replacement. I had to tear the filter apart with a channel lock wrench to get it off.
Here’s a better video of the sound. You can hear it in the background behind the wind. https://youtube.com/shorts/KdeEUJgRER8?si=_CKf68kLi6_OvGBa
I can’t reproduce while stationary, only while moving.
I had a look at the underside of the car again but can’t see much of the driveshaft to...
the noise is there regardless of whether the AC or fan is on.
I couldn’t see anything amiss when I crawled underneath it but I’ll try to get a closer look at the drive shaft
What could it be?? Dangerous to drive?
The noise started only while towing our travel trailer and now it happens often, always over ~40mph. If I let off the gas, it stops. It also stops on its own after 1-2 seconds and sounds like whatever is causing the rattle snaps off. Sometimes I can also...
I was looking at the Michelin tires but my local shop highly recommend Crugen HT51 over the Defenders or any other Michelin since they have the same performance and a better warranty.
They’re also nearly $700 cheaper for an installed set. Might be worth considering if your shop carries those...
Every time I turn on the truck, I get a noisy pop up saying there’s a TPMS issue and indeed one of the sensors is faulty.
Is there a way to permanently stop this error from coming up? If I can buy a tool to do that, I will rather than paying to replace one of these sensors every few years...
I wouldn’t worry about the gear ratio either but the cooling would be important and the brake controller is a must. I hope you can get this sorted with minimal headaches.
I’ve towed a 10,000lb, 34’ trailer with a 2019 Expedition Max and had zero issues from coast to coast. You should certainly be fine.
The most critical number is the max payload of the 4 tires, which is probably at least 2200 lbs and should absolutely not be exceeded. But all the other...
Glad you’re enjoying it! I had our 2019 platinum in the dealership for cam phaser replacement last week and they gave me a jeep wagoneer as a loaner for a few days. If I were buying again today, it would be very easy to chose the expedition again.
I also love our 2019 platinum for towing. Good long wheelbase with the Max length, plenty of power, and all the bells and whistles.
It’s a really great car to drive. But it might also be nice to save the money for another year or two and hope they come out with a hybrid version which would...
It sounds like you were going uphill too aggressively and the truck downshifted to get more power and was working so hard it overheated a bit. Speeding up before a hill and letting it slow down a bit as you climb will help.
Occasionally having it show up as getting a bit hot shouldn’t matter...
What is the danger in not getting the cam phasers replaced?
I asked our local dealer about it when the recall was announced and they said don’t bother if it isn’t causing an issue but now I’m getting the same rattle.
I’m trying to decide if I should fight about this replacement.
I also...
higher quality ceramic tins is easier to see out of at night. There are different levels, it’s not just carbon vs ceramic.
I put 20% around the sides and back; paired with the factory 25% tint, it’s effectively a 5% tint that you can’t see into from the outside even with your nose pressed up...
I have this issue when it rains but only if the car is pointed downhill while it’s raining. There seems to be a way for water to get in through the sunroof if it rolls from the back towards the front of the car. I haven’t investigated further to figure out if it can be fixed.
