I recall reading that the ecoboost EL 4x4 had mechanical LSD standard but just looked at my 17 window sticker and don't see it listed. Even with an open differential in the rear, the traction system will use the ABS as a quasi limited slip in front and rear, which supposedly is better than a...
Could be that patch of road as well. My 17 is smooth all the way up to 90 unless the road is lousy, then I wouldn't be going that fast anyway. There is a patch of concrete highway I frequent that is like driving on rumble strips even though it appears new and smooth. Doesn't matter what...
Also, all 2015-17 EL expeditions had 3.73 gears standard. If there are both a 7 and 4 pin trailer connectors on the hitch, it has HD tow and will also have the integrated brake controller. The Ford controller can be added easily and programmed with forscan, as well as adding the 7 pin connector...
I had all 3 of my F150s tuned and never had an issue. Granted I was not running anything aggressive ,mostly just tuned to improve the stock lazy throttle response. I towed all last summer with my expedition tuned the same and had zero issues. I did remove it for the winter and it's a tad but lazier.
I think they look plain and low rent without the badges. I went the other way and added a "3.5 twin turbo" badge on the back passenger side of the tailgate, and "ecobeast" emblems on driver and passenger front doors where the F150s have their ecoboost badges. That way those ricer civics can have...
Any 5.4 newer than 10 should be as solid as they got, just keep oil change intervals at 5k miles or less run a quality 5w30 synthetic (penzoil pure Plat plus), and use a Motorcraft oem oil filter and you should be fine for the long haul. I would reccomend a 5 star tune since it really wakes up...
My 5.0 F150 used to get much hotter (transmission temp wise) towing in the mountains due to its need of very high revs in the 4k rpm range to pull my rv in 2nd gear at mph. My 17 EL with HD tow pulls the trailer in 4th or 5th,and stays locked in 6th for flat and gently rolling hills at 70mph...
Ecoboost (and any boosted motor) is hard on spark plugs, I did them myself shortly after buying the vehicle as I do on all my newly purchased used cars. I'm handy in the garage and like to have a baseline for maintence items.
There are no motor differences between 10 and 11,or 10 and 14 for that matter. Updated part numbers maybe for the VCT system and timing chains but no design changes. The reason you probably don't see anything listed for newer than 10 is because that's when the 5.4 was dropped from the high...
Visit a junk yard, you'll see plenty of 3rd Gen expeditions with the aux transmission cooler, I believe it is 6 or 7 rows. Grab it with as much of the hose tubing as you can and add to yours. The bigger radiator, in my opinion is not worth the hassle. You have a temp guage, just keep an eye on...
Absolutely I would. For me that's a difference of 2 years of miles/driving and two tone black looks baller. Of course given they both had the same options and motors were quiet. With the 5.4, the newer the better since they made continuous improvements right up till they stopped putting them in...
Too expensive, last year I almost bought a 14 limited EL 4x4 with 58k miles, dealer asking price was 26 but I got them down to 24 before I accidentally test drove an ecoboost and never looked back. Well, except when I make the payment every month. Ecoboost was 33k but with CPO warranty, and...
That's funny I just noticed this on my 17 yesterday when stopped at a light. No change in rpm that I could tell by the display runs fine otherwise. I've got 44k miles, and new plugs at 33k. I guess if it goes boom, that's what the warranty is for.
Have you measured the wheel well height front and back and compared unloaded heights (no trailer) and hooked up for travel with the trailer. You should have no rise in the front and minimal drop in the rear when weight distribution bars are adjusted correctly. If the front has any rise it will...
I believe for 15+ that ALL EL models got the 3.73 gears regardless of having HD tow or not. On the short wheelbase models, 3.31 was an available option and pretty standard fair from what I found when shopping for my EL.
My 17 does it as well, both front doors but no water leaks either. I believe the issue is actually the window seal, there were several posts awhile back about this but good luck getting your dealer to cover this under warranty. They all say it's normal but I've driven some that were silent so I...
My husky centerline TS with 1k pound bars, configured correctly gives me zero rise in the steer axle and a half inch drop in the rear. My L Brackets are not at their highest adjustment point and I have all 5 washers installed as per the instructions. I have serious doubts you are pulling...
Add the transmission cooler regardless of whether you tow or not. I've installed them on every non-car vehicle I've owned, including a few minivans, and never had a transmission issue. The Ford cooler is easy to install on an expedition, you might already even have the plastic bracket on the...
What are you towing, suspension is soft on the expy and if you're towing an RV I still reccomend a good WDH. I have a 17 with HD tow package and use a wdh to pull my 6200 pound trailer with dry tongue weight of 500 but wet and fully loaded that jumps to 900! Try to get an expy with the built...
Dies anybody have the chrome caps on their expedition tow mirrors? I'd like to see how that looks, it might sway me towards installing a set. I like my vehicles with bling.
Keep us posted, I bet dealer will say normal. Mine sounds the same at 44k miles, but has since 32k when I bought it. Oil changes every 5k or less at dealer. I mentioned the noise at my last dealer oil change and the service writer said its normal and they all do it as they get more miles on...
