So I had front stabilizer links, lower ball joints, front / rear sway bar bushings done figuring there isn’t a friggin thing this truck needs ...oh and just for my road trip to Illinois in couple weeks I had tires rotated and balanced.
So I’m at the cashiers window early this morning and she...
My manual calls for 10W30 oil. Just went to dealer they put in 10W30 but it’s hot here in Fl.
It’s just not doing it now fuuuu. I hate that.
I drive from Illinois to Fl 4-6x a year. It’s all I use the truck for. Otherwise it sits in my garage.
Getting ready to list it on eBay as these...
Well shoot it won’t do it anymore. It sat for hours but still warm not tick at start up.
This morning no tick at start up.
Changing oil. We’ll see. I’m not sure spending $1500 for pump replacement and related is realistic right now for this truck.
If it comes back I’ll need to find a shop...
So I noticed a 5 second tick upon cold start up. I’m like WTFFFFUUUUU.
This engine is silent otherwise. I just drove down to Fla again from Chicago with brand new 10/30 synthetic oil and MC filter.
Prolly have 3500-4000Mi on this oil.
I’m thinking oil starvation at initial start up because...
I doubt all those that don’t feel extended warranty is worthwhile would never walk around wo health insurance.
Extended warranties are insurance. If you’re caught without it you could be ruined financially.
On a 2017 any repair on that eco is gonna pay for the insurance.
It comes down to...
Just read this one. Funny. But I still don’t understand why it’s Fords fault if you didn’t do this properly.
I do agree though these big V8 OHC, VVT, 3v 5.4’s are notorious for this originally suspected failure.
So are the 3.5 EB’s so I totally sympathize w your suburban comment.
I’m looking...
I don’t believe the “newer” vehicles are more reliable than older.
My 1992 BMW735i gave me 295,xxx before she gave up the tranny 2 years ago. I was original owner. On newer they’ve had so many problems w VVT and oil consumption you can buy a recent used 7 series for $10k and it sticker price at...
I’m just not comfortable w the VVT issues on the 3v 5.4’s.
It’s not just the cam phasers. Chain guides, oil pump maybe even the chains depending on how bad it’s running.
You don’t tear the front off that engine and just change phasers.
Children... if I wanted a dragster I wouldn’t buy a truck. I drive on streets not drag strips.
The 5.0 in the F150 remains available and is a far better platform than the 3.5 or 2.7 tt in its simplicity, reliability and maintenance.
Go on YouTube and search the video of Ford dealer mechanics...
The 3v 5.4 are notorious for VVT failures. It is well documented. If you are a mechanic you know this to be true. Maybe not the 3 you own of course
The 2v 5.4 is not a fast truck which is what seems to be of interest to you but the torque curve is low and for what it was designed to be at that...
Thefordguy,
Agreed. If they try to cheat you once...
It amazes me that some stealers really think we’re all stupid or that we won’t shop
Truck buyers can be very educated about what they want.
