    Transmission cooler

Jay, not to question you, but if you have the tow package, your truck already has a tranny cooler installed on it. If you look in front of the radiator, you will see a mini radiator there. That is the tranny cooler. If you follow the lines back, you should have one coming off of the bottom of...

    My 1st Gen's MPG, you?

Panda, not to question the installation of a throttle body spacer, but on our engines, they will actually rob power from the engine (big air restriction). The best use of a throttle body space for our trucks is using them as book ends for the shop manuals. I am sure I can find some dyno tests...

    Efan help

bundy, what part of VA are you in? I'm just over the boarder in So MD. I have done the e-fan conversion on my truck and wouldn't mind helping you get yours in. As for what to buy, that is a loaded question. I think the first answer I would have to ask is how much money are you willing to...

    My 1st Gen's MPG, you?

As for mods to improve mileage, I have done quite a few. Some may say that some would hurt, but it is all in how you do them: -Gotts mod to open up the air box and using a K&N filter -e-fan conversion set up on separate controllers, offset by about 10F at 195 and 205F -true dual exhaust using...

    Rear Coil Spacer Questions

catmaster, I did the lift on my truck by myself. Granted, I did have access to a lift and a tranny jack. But, yes, you can do it in your driveway. I have done a few kits that way. the hard part is going to be supporting the front differential as you are putting the drop brackets in. But...

    12mm or 14mm

Huh, that is interesting. Back when they made the change, it was my understanding that all of the trucks after 1999 got the 14mm studs. They did that because of a safety concern (the 97's were having wheels fall off of the trucks while driving down the road after people most likely over...

Fuse number for check engine light? (97 Exp 4X EB)

Auction, your CEL bulb is burned out. If the fuse was blown for the CEL light, you would not be able to start the truck up as the ECM would not have power. Since you are into the instrument cluster, spend a few extra dollars and replace a lot of the other bulbs back there too. Once you start...

    air filters

panda, they make a special sock that goes over the air filter for when you play in the dirt. It pulls the dust out of the air before it hits the filter. If the sock gets too much dirt in it, you pull it off, smack it around a little bit and then put it back on. takes all of about 2 minutes to do.

    is it possible....

shoota, no, there is no such thing built into our trucks for something like that. With that being said, I would recommend you take a look at your thermostat. It may be that your thermostat is acting funny and it is pushing too much coolant through your radiator and it is causing the motor to...

    12mm or 14mm

johnjon, you have the 14mm bolts. The 97/98 vehicles have 12mm studs, but from 99 on, all the trucks got 14mm studs. There may be a few of the really early 99's that got the 12mm studs, but that would be more the exception than the norm. Since you have a 2000, you have the 14mm studs for sure.

Faulty TPS? (no CEL or codes)

Shadow, go to the auto parts store and get yourself some throttle body cleaner (NOT!!!!! carb cleaner). Remove the intake and using your finger, manually open the butterfly valve. If you see brown, squirt it with the throttle body cleaner. Pay special attention to the edge of the butterfly...

    air filters

hovocop, yes, you will experience a little bit quicker throttle response. The replacable filters do not drop quite as much pressure as a paper filter. I have no experience with the Spectre filters, but I have been running a K&N in my Expy for the last 10 years. No issues to date. If...

Faulty TPS? (no CEL or codes)

Shadow, it sounds like you need to clean your throttlebody. If the butterfly valve sticks even a little bit, it can cause what you are seeing. Then you can replace the TPS unit. I had to replace the one on my truck (got some metal shavings inside of the sensor, guess I should have pulled that...

    6000k hids for big bertha

Plavin, I have installed aftermarket HIDs in a few different vehicles (last being a 2010 Fusion with 6000K bulbs in the low and fogs). The big thing is you want 35 watt HIDs, NOT 50/55W HIDs!!!!!!!! 35W HIDs are legal, the 50/55W HIDs are not. Secondly, halogen bulbs output about 1300 lumen...

    Charging system issues

Ah yes, our trucks are notorious for having wiring issues in the steering column. I bet you like to raise and lower your steering column when you get in and out of the truck. Am I right? Seeing that problem does not surprise me. Granted, it normally shows itself with funky responses to the...

2002 exp headlight harness upgrade help

Coal, let me ask this: are you running aftermarket headlights that have separate high and low beam housings? If not, I would not recommend running both high and low beam at the same time. You are going to generate too much heat in a very limited area if you are running halogen bulbs...

    glasspacks?

camo, this is what I will tell you: An open exhaust can net you more power, but it can hurt your low end torque. The wider you make it, the louder it will tend to be and normally result in better high RPM power, but it will also hurt your torque at the low RPM since there will be no back...

    My 1st Gen's MPG, you?

I pull 13 mpg almost religiously. Now, keep in mind that I have 37" mud tires on a 4" lift and 4.56 gears. So, I am going to get 13 whether I am in town or on the highway. PRobably get that pulling a decent trailer too. When I was completely stock, I was pulling 16/17 on average with some of...

    Am I missing something???

Gage, the remote oil filter kit was standard equipment on the earlier Expy's with the heavy duty package as it provided an oil cooler as part of the upgrade. Later on, all Expy's got the filter mounted directly to the block. Having the oil filter remotely mounted is a mixed blessing. While it...

    Constant Hum 2000 Xp A4WD

Normally, the easy way to check to see if it is the CV joints is to back up. If the noise changes, then it is the CV joints (goes from a hum to a click). If it remains a hum, then odds are it is a hub assembly.

    Oil Filter

Yes, Ford sold Jaguar to Tata Motors (India based company) in 2009. Tata Motors is still using the Ford 5.0L motor in their cars, just with a few tweaks. So, if you buy a new Jaguar, you can find lots of mods for the motors since they are using the same thing that the Mustangs are.

semper, I am still able to pull 13 mpg with my 37's. Granted, I get 13 whether I am in town, on the highway, got 8 people in the truck or just me. Seems to be a solid number. About the only way I can make it shift is if I am hard on the gas light after light, after light. The big thing that...

    Constant Hum 2000 Xp A4WD

Duksta, what I want you to try is drive down the road at high way speeds and do a controlled fast speed lane change or find a corner that you can take up near highway speed (a semi sharp corner in a highway is good enough). What I want you to do is to be able to turn both left and right as the...

    New guy/owner of a 97 xlt

Semper, take it out 4x4ing before you start doing all the mods. I think you will find the truck very capable, especially if you have the LS rear end. I lifted mine because I hated looking like everyone else and was one of the first to step up to 35's. But, shortly after I put on 35's, it...
