    Lifting 99 Expo! Need advice!

bryce, I think you are going to have a slight issue trying to run 35/37" tires on your stock rims. The reason why I say that is you are putting too much side load on the tire running a 12.5" wide tire on a 7" wide rim. I was given a hard time mounting my 35x12.5's on 8" wide rims. Most tire...

    Bolts on my 5.4

daoud, look on the end of the bolts that the intake has and see if they are blank, have "8.8" on them or "10.8". If they are the 8.8 or 10.8 bolts, then I would say you can get away with them. If they are just generic bolts, I would upgrade them to something stronger (like the 8.8 or 10.8...

    Miles per tank thread

When the truck was stock, I would routinely get around 425-450 miles to a tank which was a 50/50 mix of highway and city driving (around 16 mpg). With the lift and oversized tires, I am pulling around 350 miles to a tank regardless of whether I am in town or on the highway (13 mpg).

    Lifting 99 Expo! Need advice!

Guys, keep in mind that he is starting with a 2wd truck. So, he is starting 4" lower than any 4x4 rig. So, with 11" of lift, he would be 7" higher than a stock 4x4 rig and that looks about right with 35's or 37's. I have 37's with only a 4" lift (8" lift in his case). Granted, this is a...

1998 expedition going into 4x4 problem

mikiah, from the sounds of things, you have a bearing that is going on the transfer case. Keep in mind that the front end disengages when in 2 hi, but is engaged when in all other modes. You can try disconnecting the front drive shaft and seeing what you have as it could be the front...

    need help trailer plug

Your best bet would be to simply cut off the old plug and pick up a new 7 pin plug. They are like $10. Then you can strip back the last few inches of the wiring into separate wires and reconnect them to the plug (stripping the last 1/2" of insulation from the wiring). This is going to be much...

    mileage storage

Baker, the mileage is stored in the ECU. But, with that being said, it is also stored in the cluster and checked against the mileage in the ECU for a match. When it doesn't match, it throws errors in the ECU to warn people that the mileage has been messed with.

    Dual Battery set-up

Tony, i know you are going to laugh with this, but you are correct. But, with that being said, a winch is a unique situation where unless you are running dual 250 amp alternators, the likelihood of powering everything off of "the alternator" is not possible. So, yes, during winch operation...

Has any one de-badged their Expy?

TacticalMonkey, if I do some looking around, I managed to get the "Expedition Font" from Ford to do a project that I was looking at. Then you can make whatever word you want to put on the truck. This is the font that was used on the 03-present trucks. I was really shooting for the script font...

    Dual Battery set-up

Canadian, well, like I said, as long as you leave it in mode 1, you should be good. But, if you get someone else driving the truck or something like that, it can get interesting in a hurry. What you have is not wrong, I just like the "idiot proof" setups. What can I say, I have lived with a...

    Lifting 99 Expo! Need advice!

bryce, you can do either first. It doesn't matter. They are completely independent of each other. The body lift will get you some height for little to no money. But, then you may find yourself doing 2 sets of tires if there is some time between the two.

    Dual Battery set-up

Guys, let me clarify something off the bat: dual batteries do nothing for you if the engine is running. PERIOD!!!!! With the motor running, 100% of the loads should be coming off of the alternator. If they are not, then you are overloading your alternator and you have other issues that a...

    Sumo Supersprings

Cherokee, if you are familiar with NASCAR and their "spacers" that they talk about, this is what they are adding in effect. Yes, these spacers add stiffness to that one coil, but the other coils are still going to be the same strength. So, until you collapse the majority of the spring, that...

    Dual Battery set-up

Canadian, my experiences with a solenoid system is that the solenoid is wired up to place the 2 batteries in parallel with each other to allow charging. But, what happens is this is done with a switch and the owner will forget to turn the switch off when they park the truck. So, when they...

    Lifting 99 Expo! Need advice!

bryce, a shop will get it done in 10-12 hours since they have a lift and all the necessary tools and have done a few lifts. You can plan on them charging you about $800 to install the lift (the lift would be up and above that). I did my first lift based off of directions only. But, I also had...

    Simillar problem as Thunder73.....but

Smok, bad ignition coil. MOst likely #3 or #4. Granted, #7 is a high probability if it is not 3 or 4. If it isn't those, I would check the rear end diff fluid level if you have a limited slip rear end. If this happens when turning, the fluid level can be low and you are not getting the...

    Lifting 99 Expo! Need advice!

Bryce, I have installed the 7.5" kit on an F-150. The kit was pretty completely. Nothing left out that I could tell. But, if you are doing this yourself and it is your first kit, plan on having the truck down atleast 2 days. If you know what you are doing, you can get the lift done in 12...

    What's the Limiting Factor???

LJ, yes, a chip, there are some other programmers out there. But even something as simple as upgrading the exhaust to something less restrictive (makes the turbo spin faster and therefore makes more boost, more boost means more power). If you keep it stock, you will be golden. But, keep in...

    What's the Limiting Factor???

LJ, when it comes to the Excursion with the diesel in it, I have to ask you this: are you planning on chipping it to up the power? If you are planning on leaving it as is and being happy with the truck, then you are probably golden. But, if you plan on putting on power adders, this is going to...

    Dual Battery set-up

Canadian, I would recommend spending a little more and finding yourself a battery isolator vice using the solenoid. While the solenoid will provide the necessary isolation, I also find that it creates more hassles than it fixes. The last dual setup I did, I think it cost us a whole $100 plus...

    Lower trailing arm question

Can always look at some Rancho bars and put those on. They are much beefier than the stock stuff. Even more so than the PMT. The big trick with them will be finding a set. But, you may get lucky and find someone selling the back half lift kit for an Expy. never know what you can find.

    Leaks, Leaks, leaks!

curleywon, from the sounds of things, you have a radiator that has gotten a pin hole leak in it on the passenger side. Unfortunatley, the answer is a new radiator. Atleast the radiator is easy to install. A few hours and you are all done. I wish you were a little bit closer to me (I'm 2...

Rookie question about a lift kit

    Battery keeps draining

CrewChief, like Captain said, do not use the multimeter as an amp meter with the engine running. In a lot of cases, the alternator is outputting about 80 amps. The best multimeter is only capable of handling 10 amps. Yes, the fuse blew with a purpose. Now, with that being said, the best...
