    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

Yer soundin' like the missus! lol Working on it slowly.. got the t-case shifter in. That was a feat of hickengineering if I ever saw one. ZF has two mounting locations for pivot bolt, ended up using furthermost back one, and then I had to rotate the pivot 180 degrees to get t-case shifter to at...

    Changing Pad and Calipers

I made a YDMF mistake like that on ours, unsure what the mistake was, and I am going to have to tear in there, but the dowels or pins that slide in to hold everything in place, are half out and hitting the wheel on the front pass side.

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

well, notched the floor for the shifter, tomorrow t- case,a dn then we finish hydraulics, button up inside, hook up filter lines. In a key YDMF moment after I notched for the fuel lines, I noticed just how close I cam to the high psi fuel lines with the skinny wheel.. No harm, no foul, but.. be...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

so I got the NV271 in. I said this earlier, and I will say it again. Drop the Torsion bar mounting area, out of the way. Just f@#$ing do it. That sucked. Our t-case is a BW44-06, Slip yoke on arse, flanged front. NV271/273 (3 is e-shift, 1 is mannie shift) is flanged front and rear. Front...

    Who's pulled their 4x4 tranny?

I thought next to a Bronco II it was the worst designed undercarriage I have ever had to work on. Course half my delay was figuring out what had to come out; trying to take the exhaust out nice, cut it, do the ditch the second cat mod while you are in there, life will be less painful, will I do...

big wheels=big smiles... but what about at the pump?

That has been my argument, but when we went from 20's, weren't even oversized, back to stock 16's, we noticed a pretty decent mpg increase. 50-70 miles per fill up. Wife hated them.. thought they looked too... how to describe it w/o using ethinicity (:badidea:) for description... ? Too busy...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

Towing with Standard towing and 3:31 gears?

I think we are 3.73, and we towed our 1972 Kit Prowler 20' trailer last year, Nampa ID to 'Frisco, and back. Kept it out of OD, kept it at 55 mph (its a CA thing) and... 9-10 mpg, and.. We sorely regretted not towing it with a "proper" vehicle. (my one ton) I would look at 18' pop ups, for the...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

He said with the 396 it had, according to the GPS it did 81 mph. 3 blade prop. apparently more blades faster launch, slower top end... with the dyno'd 454 Alum heads, keith black this that and the other thing, with a 3 blade prop, 1/3 throttle and the boat goes strait up. He is projecting 100 ~...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

Yip Huh? Haven't decided yet. As I noted in my last post, I am a bit away from finishing, funds ran low... Pesky Mortgage payment anyway... HAve yet to notch for shifter and see where it lays.. She wanted the stick, and the mannie shift t-case, so thinking she wants it as truckish as it...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

So, I have reinstalled cross member. Trans is on mount on cross member, and I can stuff my fingers between top of ZF and floorboard. Going to have to re engineer the X member holes, they are 2" shifted to the driver side of where they need to be. Both ZF and E4 mounts are dang near...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

half stoned on Clan McGregor, and the body is fully rejecting the new dosage of skatarra... so bear with me. Umm... THere is a bracket which bolts to the ass of the e40D, it holds both your fuel lines, one is high psi feed, one is return, that will attach to the ZF, you have to drill out the...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

All I did today, all day was wrassle the exhaust loose... drop the front driveshaft, etc. Was just gonna cut the exhaust 4 hours ago, wife cried and whimpered, so Father in law came over, and the two of us got these 13 year old rusted together compression fittings loose. Pretty impressive, 140k...

    ZF6 swap 98 Expedition

Pedal assembly is swapped, dash is rebuilt. All necessary holes were there, dare I say plug and play? TC is loose from flexplate, drivesahfts are loose... This thing is over engineered to a fault, and compact. It's like working on a, I don't even know.. One of the things you look forward to on...

    manual locking hubs?

So I just did a ZF 6 swap on my 98 Expy. This facilitates the use of the SuperDuties NV 271 or 273 t case. The 273 is e shift, but Mama wants a lever, so she gets one. What am I going to need to do to lock in the front hubs? Will there be a vacuum port off the nv271? Help? Not opposed to a SFA...
